So basically Vista will run on any modern computer.....say computers that are 2 years old....with no probs except there will be an automatic disabling of features depending on the capabilities of the machine....right?

The hardware requirements for Vista seem pretty high (mainly to support the new GUI).
In an age where it looked like we could shift [at least basic] desktop computing to more efficient desktop mobile technology [which i use] and use less energy, the Vista requirements look to encourage the continuation of "bigger is better" consumer computing, at least until the comparitively expensive mobile platforms can accomodate a good value dual core solution.
Personally, i know that if i want to run vista, i will at least need to get a pci-e graphics card, as whilst my intel GMA900 chip can play the likes of modest games such as MOH Pacific Assault on 800x600 with medium settings, it wont support the Aero interface, which is slightly odd.
