Hackers stick latest Android on iPhone 2G and 3G

Hackers have come up with a way of rescuing Apple fanboys who have elderly versions of the iPhone. For a while now Jobs' Mob has been forcing its long suffering customers to upgrade their 2G and 3G phones to the broken iPhone 4 by saddling them with an upgrade which made their gizmos slower.

Now Redmond Pie has come up with a method of replacing iOS on iPhone 2G and 3G models with Android 2.2 Froyo without using any tools on a host computer.

The outfit had shown off an Android installation before. This involved running iPhoDroid on a host computer connected to a jailbroken iPhone 2G or 3G.

This new process uses Bootlace 2.1 to install Android directly via WiFi. It works on iPhone 2Gs with iOS 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 and iPhone 3Gs with 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1.

What the hackers appear to have done is link three separate jail breaking tools for iPhones.
Android has no problem with a lower spec. In fact several mobile manufacturers make low-end smartphone devices.

However, it does mean that if Apple fanboys are prepared to defect to the opposition they could get a few more years out of their older iPhone models.

According to the tame Apple press, no Apple fanboy would do that, particularly after further performance improvements to iOS are likely to arrive in the upcoming iOS 4.2 rumoured to appear this week.
