Four patches expected from Microsoft on next Patch Tuesday -----

Microsoft is to release four patches for Windows and Office on its next Patch Tuesday. It announced that it will release three patches for Windows, two to cover an important elevation of privilege flaw and a critical patch to cover a remote code execution vulnerability. The other patch will cover a remote code execution flaw in Office and is rated as important.

The move to release a small batch follows two patches in May's bulletin and 13 patches in June's release.

Amol Sarwate, vulnerability labs manager for Qualys, said: “The highest priority update is rated critical and only affects Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

The second highest priority will most likely be bulletin four, which fixes a remote code execution in Visio 2003 SP3.

“The other two updates are rated important and affect Windows7, Vista, XP and 2008. Many companies will have limited exposure for the software affected and will be able to take a breather this month as this is a relatively small release as compared to last month's 16 updates and is consistent with the cycle of smaller patches every other month.”
