Microsoft rebrands itself

As we saw the wavy "flag" of Windows past replaced with something more flat, Microsoft has changed its own company logo. The new logo looks to use the same Segoe font, and the old Windows logo has been flattened out.

mmmm lets go back to the 80's.. why not..... what a decade!
First Vista, then the Xbox 360, then a logo that looks like a 5 year old made it, and soon Windows 8. Let's all pitch in and buy M$ a coffin.
If only their design principles were as lean as this 'logo'. I'm nostalgic for Office 2000 logos that, while also oversimplified, at least looked serious and corporate-like.
It's more of that Windows 1.0 look and feel they're channeling with Windows 8.0. Big, square blocks. Solid colors. Tiled, non-overlapping windows.
I find it alarming that other websites follow Microsoft's example, for example as Mega[upload]. During the popularity of XP, sites unrelated to Microsoft all displayed graphics characteristically blurred and casting shadows. If I say I like certain UI style, I'm old fashioned, but if Microsoft makes the choice, it's Modern.
