Posted on Sep 30 2009 01:32 AM by xper  in Software | Viewed 5330 Times

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.

This software seems to work very well with little notice to it working at all. I rather like it. The only thing I do not like and this is not unique only to Microsoft is that you cannot turn off SpyNet from what I see. We should be given this option to do so if we wish.

I have had no problems with this software at all and I think others will like it.

I'd like to see some benchmarks of this software, like how fast it runs, how much of an impact it has upon system performance and how good its detection rates are. The latter we can find out, because I hear it uses definitions from forefront.

If Microsoft acts as Microsoft normally does, this could replace Norton and McAfee as the default OEM-supplied security suite. I hope. I hate it when I have to sort out computers running either suite because they're super slow. It came with my laptop, and gave me little option to tell it to go away as well. Security Essentials is free, so the nagware won't be necessary.

Is this a service, and can you switch the service from Automatic to Manual?

And for anyone else who is looking for a way to manually download updates for this (like i do for other AV stuff, no broadband at home), visit here:

Action Center alerts you that your product key is invalid when it scans stealthily background... There is no option to disable the 'Join spynet community'; by default, it is mandatory, unlike the Windows Defender...
