Windows 8.1 update to be released this autumn with start menu
Posted on Apr 26 2014 05:01 PM by xper in Windows

Microsoft's update to Windows 8.1 could be released in a matter of months and is set to include a start menu, according to Russian pirate group WZOR. Windows 8.2 will become available this autumn, the group told Myce, while Windows 9 could introduce a new version of Metro, Microsoft's design language.

The start menu showcased at Build 2014 last month will constitute part of the autumn update, according to the rumours, and will also be a key part of Windows 9's new Metro interface.

WZOR did not confirm the veracity of rumours suggesting that 9 will be a free release, but did say that the OS will differ depending on what device it runs on.

Desktops will feature a classic start menu while touchscreen devices will work "on other principles".

The leakers also said a cloud system project called Windows Cloud is "under cover of absolute secrecy".

The group told Myce it is harder to get detailed information after Microsoft bolstered its security measures following the arrest of an ex-employee caught leaking software to a journalist.
