With the sudden influx of updates, keep your eyes out for the new and improved win9x power pack v6. I spent way too long attempting to update a W95 install the other day, and need to update my compilation.
... And I thought you stopped developing the Power Pack.
Looking forward to your new edition. thumbup.gif

Hi MDGx, here is an example of the very confusing version control issue I mentioned in the MDDACU thread. This is what you posted in your latest update on 13-Nov for the GDI+ security update:

QUOTE (MDGx @ May 19 2005, 07:04 PM) *
UPDATED · 11-13-2009

GDIPLUS:
http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#GDI
New version from WinXP SP3 fix:
* Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME Graphics Device Interface+ (GDI+) 32-bit Graphics/Video Acceleration Runtime Library GDIPLUS.DLL 5.1.3102.5581 Security Vulnerability Fix:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms08-052.mspx
GDIPLUS.DLL [895 KB]:
http://www.mdgx.com/files/GDIPLUS.EXE
OLD GDIPLUS.DLL 5.1.3102.1360 for Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME [1 MB]:
http://www.mdgx.com/files/GDI_PLUS.EXE
Place old GDIPLUS.DLL in %windir%\SYSTEM .

However, Microsoft states in their MS09-062 security bulletin that KB958869 supersedes the KB938464 GDI+ update referenced in the MS08-052 security bulletin you cited. Therefore, the latest version of gdiplus.dll should be 5.2.6001.22319 and not 5.1.3102.5581.

Curiously, the version of gdiplus.dll on my Win98SE system is 5.1.3102.2180 (from WinXP SP2) and I'm not sure how it got to be that way.

Yeah, I'm aware of this new version, but I didn't have time to test it, and eventually [if it works properly = unless you or some1 else already tested it successfully] make a 98/98 SE/ME installer.
If a new 9x installer is appropriate, I'll post it here when I have time.

Please be advised that Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 versions of GDIPLUS.DLL are usually not compatible with 9x OSes.
You have to use the specific 9x versions Microsoft makes for these OSes. WinNT4/2000 versions may or may not work with 9x OSes.
Therefore all new versions MS puts out must be tested 1st for compatibility.

Thanks for your reply MDGx. Again, I greatly appreciate all the support you've provided to the Win9x/ME user community and all the time and work that it requires.

Ah, I see about the testing issue. I guess I've always assumed (perhaps naively) that an update would properly work. When I manually update a system file I usually make a backup copy of the old file beforehand just in case something goes wrong. I would be glad to help test and/or create installers if I knew how to. I'm not sure how you would test .dll files unless you knew the program(s) that call them (?)

Thanks for the info about WinXP vs. Win9x/ME versions. I suspected that was the case for most system files but I see various people replacing certain system files in these unofficial updates and usually with Win2000 versions. I'm still not sure how I got a WinXP version of GDIPLUS.DLL on my Win98SE system but from reviewing my changelogs, I suspect it may have been installed with Adobe Shockwave Player.
