I too! fancy an English version.

I had it installed, and it seemed very promising.
I could not benefit from all the features, since it was in Polish--and had no clue what certain words meant---so I had to remove it.
Imagine though, if the 98se OS manifested to you in human form---and said--"Yes, please do this for Me, that I can live on" !!!!!

What are the differences with Gape's uSP?

The most important difference is the proffessionalism of the creator(s). The readme file of the Unofficial Service Pack Plus 4.2d looks like written by a child. I see no point in translating it to English, because of that. This was the main reason, why I did not tested the thing, so far.

For those who are willing to test it there are a few important information in the readme.

The pack was designed for Polish language version of the Windows 98 SE.

The Internel Explorer 5.0 should be installed. The newer IE versions can result in the system failure right after installation. It will be possible to install newer IE versions, after this pack was installed.

You should have warn users about the requirements and limitations of your service pack. I just posted my opinions and some important informations taken from the readme file. You can easily see every good thread with a service pack or an update begins from some important informations. You did not care to provide any of it. The people trying to test your work will risk with their system stability or crash. Since this is an english language forum, almost noone will be able to read anything from the readme.

If someone applies the patch and the system will crash, the damnations will go towards you and the Polish people, who I am as well.

I have never used the softmania.pl forums, so far. So, I could not be warned in any ways over there. The choice of words in the personal mail you sent me is at least rude.

A 13 years old boy is a child for a 35 years old man. So, I had right, after all. I presented my personal opinion on this forum, now I'm being attacked for it. Fine, but do not you dare to threaten me.

Now to back up my opinion about Gape's service pack. There is a Polish version 2.1b of the pack with an automatic installer just as the english language version. I'm using it for quite a time, and I found it to be very useful and easy to apply.

Your service pack is just a set of separate updates with an instruction how to apply all the improvements. So, the Gape showed much more commitment and knowledge while creating his pack in my opinion.

The readme file of your pack is a bit chaotic with significant parts containing just "I had no will to write about it" (or equivalent) statement. At the end there ia a significant collections of jokes about some software producers. (If you would read something about the history you would have know it is not wise "to moon the giant". Netscape knows something about it). So in my personal opinion your pack is more a joke than a piece of work I would trust in.

At one side I see a good piece of work from the Pablo the polish translator of the Unofficial Service Pack 2.1b. The other side is your service pack with all it's limitations. So, my personal vote is going towards USP, Pablo and Gape.

Hey guys, no need to get upset. smile.gif

@spplus,
I guess you can agree that this is an International (where English is used) Forum, and that UNLESS EXPLICITLY STATED everything posted here should be tested and working on English systems.

My guess is that Polish users of this Forum also check Polish Forums, so there is not much point about posting "nationalized" versions here.

QUOTE (spplus @ Jun 19 2008, 03:52 PM) *
It does not say your personal opinion truth! Competition! We have no time to write about changes. Sorry, Uploading for the first. Gape has no Readme in his SP. It is not professional. Some people, what downloaded SP where from, they don't know about changes. Readme needed in Gape's SP. Sadly! Microsoft has done remake of folders in Win98, but has forgotten do this in animations - just has copied from95. So, and Gape has "forgotten" to fix this problem but We not. Sadly, We have 2008 year and those old icons are ugly.

In case of the Polish version of the USP 2.1b there is no need for the readme. After running a choice list with checkboxes is displayed. The usage is as simple as select and click "continue". In case of your pack I was unable to determine what to do with it. So, the first thing I looked in to was the readme file. The general impression I gained from reading was bad enough to leave it without installing.

If the usage is so simple as in the USP 2.1b, no readme file is necesary. The informations about the changes were provided at a web page I downloaded the package from. So, the lack of the readme file did not have any significant influence on my impression.

As for the animations. I was using Windows 95 for a very long time, and I have nothing against the animations used there. Also, I do not pay much attention to the system look, as long as it works right. So, what I'm looking for are updates providing solutions to serious problems. If there is a possibility to disable any just look improoving updates in the package, I do not install them.

I'm not the Microsoft worker. But I'm working with Microsoft products. I should like Microsoft, because my income is related with services I do to the Microsoft system users. So, It would be logical for me to like Microsoft.

I think I liked the Microsoft when there was just the DOS, around. Windows 3.1 did not change that opinion, I think. Still, my "love" was decreasing with time. And now, I do not like it at all.

Sfor and Spplus!!!
All this can be resolved once there is an English version!
When I had it on my PC, it did seem to run a lot faster, though not unbelievably!
But, I only installed one or two things provided, and did not go further--since I did not really know what the hell I would be doing. So perhaps, if I had installed everything--it might have run "unbelievably" fast!
What if this 13 year old fellow is a future computer genius that really helps our beloved Windows 98se?
All contentions should be put aside for the sake of Windows 98se!
Please work together for the sake of 98se!

I took a look at the Softmania forums. There are significant amount of posts referring to the increasement of system speed, after the package installation.
