Updated: March 20, 2009 - Added download mirror for dencorso's parametric EQ patch (Thanks again MDGx There are some people having problems with their Creative Sound Blaster Live! in Windows 9x. Creative CD release drivers and Web Release drivers seem to be in many different revisions for different cards... Some revisions are good and some are not. For years I have been collecting and testing newer versions of creative driver files to determine those that worked in 9x with the Live!. Following is that collection of driver files: Please note that these are original, freely available Creative files, and the binaries are not modified or patched in any way. The provided software is useless without a Creative Sound Blaster Live! card installed. The PCI ID can be found using regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI Look for a key starting with VEN_1102&DEV_0002, and copy the key name. I have used these drivers in Windows 98SE, but they should support 95 and Me although I have not tested them on these platforms. There are Creative installers for Windows 95 and for Windows 98/Me. Windows 9x Pure DOS support drivers For those wanting Pure DOS (outside of Windows) Sound Blaster 16 Emulation for their Live! and have lost or never had the original CD, or have a newer CD that does not come with these, or simply can't be bothered looking for them: 1999 Release (823 KiB): mirror 1: http://www.divshare.com/download/6106307-f19 mirror 2: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/sbldos.zip 2000 Release (827 KiB): mirror 1: http://www.divshare.com/download/6107195-60d mirror 2: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/sbldos2.zip There are two releases of DOS Drivers. The 2000 release should work on all Live! cards, but if there is a problem then use the 1999 release. Note: DOS Emulation may not work on some (newer) motherboards if the BIOS does not map the PCI SERR# signal to the processor NMI (Non-Maskable Interrupt). Look in the BIOS settings for a PCI SERR setting or check with your mobo vendor for a BIOS upgrade, or dump the Mobo for one that works properly! First thing I got was an error ""Unhandled Exception" / Error number 0x80070725 / Description: Incompatible version of the RPC stub. / Setup will now terminate. So I figured out how to fix that (replace oleaut32.dll with correct version). Now the file unpacks a self-extracting EXE, which starts Install Shield, which then dies silently. No error message, no nothing, it just disappears. Any idea how these drivers can be manually installed w/o help from InstallShield? |

MDGx, I think the iso you mean is the sb_install.iso I had on filefront until they deleted it due to inactivity. The OP apparently got hold of it since he added some of the files and inf stuff to his 1st post and thanked me. I am currently uploading it again to filefront. I think it will be able to be accessed once done from my file page there: http://hosted.filefront.com/dahveed3/ Since they remove it automatically and you have offered to host stuff, I hope you can get it from there and offer it from your site on a more permanent basis. As I've said, it's the install cd included in the retail Creative SB0100 box. You may want to add to your description that it, by default, installs WDM drivers on 98SE and Me. If one wants it to install the VXD drivers, and thereby include the full Creative MS-DOS driver in DOS and Windows, it needs to be copied to the hard drive and the following change needs to be made: Right click on the/Audio\/english/Setup/AUDIO.INI file, choose Properties, and uncheck Read Only. Open AUDIO.INI in notepad and change the following: [Drivers] 98SEWDM = 1 to 98SEWDM = 0 MEWDM = 1 to MEWDM = 0 Save and Close Notepad, then right click it and in Properties check Read Only again. Then to install run /Ctrun/Ctrun.exe but if that doesn't startup properly then run /Audio/English/Setup/Setup.exe Note that since this retail SB0100 did not come with a LiveDrive, Creative did not include Remote Center on the cd at all so even though the driver probably contains the files there is no software provided for it. But it does contain a full set of LiveWare that is more up to date on software and drivers than the older cd's and web releases ever contained for the VXD setup of things. Users should download the latest PlayCenter package from the Creative Download Legacy site and upgrade the version of PlayCenter the cd installs. That's what I used to do. They should also go into Control Panel - Multimedia Properties, and in the Audio Codecs section choose the Creative ctmp3 codec and in Properties choose not to use that codec in this profile. That way it won't interfere with the Windows Media Player mp3 codec and cause system freezes such as when running Themes and Windows Startup sounds. The old fix was to delete or rename the codec itself but this works just as well and doesn't mess up the registry in the process. That torrent never seemed to be able to work for some reason but hopefully you can get the iso from filefront once it is finished uploading. This post has been edited by Eck: Feb 15 2009, 09:03 AM |

Eck, Thanks a lot for your time and concern. I managed to d/l your iso from filefront. I renamed it to SB0100.ISO [was 591 MB] and compressed in RAR format down to 395 MB (200 MB smaller) = new file name SB0100_ISO.RAR: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB0100_ISO.RAR One needs 7-zip, WinRAR or similar to extract the ISO: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP ______________________________________ Everybody, All files in the SB repository now available at [this is where list.php now redirects to]: http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/ Please update all your bookmarks/favorites/links to this new mirror URL. And feel free to link to any files. HTH |

See the instructions under the card list in the First Post I'm not able to get the PCI ID information from the latest drivers since Creative now encrypt this information(!) - as if it's really secret! Anyone can find it if they have the card. |

As mentioned previously, Creative are hiding the information I need related to the model number... The only way currently is to actually have the card in the PC and read what Windows has got from the card... Even then, I'm not sure what we can get working with these latest cards. But we'll try... |

Well, the first thing I can tell is that it's not part of the Sound Blaster Live! family... All the Live! cards have a PCI ID starting with PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0002. The one you have starts with PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0006. I would say at first glance that the Live! drivers will probably never work on this card... I could be wrong though... It all depends on whether it has an EMU10K1 chipset... The Audigy family has an EMU10K2 chipset. |

Starcraftmaster, is this what your card looks like?... http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=3031311 I've found a few other places calling that model number an "Audigy LS" and it's also possible that it's a Dell or Gateway part. The only mention of SB0680 that I've been able to find so far on the Creative Labs page is this one where they call it a "Sound Blaster 5.1" (note, no "Live")... Windows 7 - Driver Availability Chart If you have the original CD that came with it, maybe you could make an ISO image, then make a RAR archive of this ISO file and upload it somewhere so that RetroOS can take a look at it. I'm wondering if that model was the bastard child of the flurry of sound chip manufacturer acquisitions that Creative did a while back and was later abandoned.
