Generally, the reason we have everything in a searchable format without the chat is so people can find answers to their questions by searching the forums, and the site becomes a database of useful knowledge. Also, the same questions tend to get asked less frequently (and thus answered less frequently), freeing up the users to tackle more interesting and obscure issues as well.

Disclaimer: members in this fictitious chat log are fictional. any resemblance to actual moderators is purely coincidental. but seriously, i don't think a live chat would work. it would further reduce the use of the search function and on the off chance that anything usefull was discovered in chat,it wouldnt be accessible the few people that do use the search feature. |

Wow, geek... you've really had me rofl'ing tonight. Good work.
Of course, you make a good point. But it sure would be funny to watch, at least for the first 2 minutes or so. Then it would get old. |

Wat do u think live chat was developed for If you feel MSFN needs a live chat segment to be a good board, that's fine and of course you are welcome to your opinion. |

If one really wanted to have a Chat possibility, I'd be all for freenode. Except if someone sees a catch in their rules. Personally I think MSFN could go with #6 WebMedia. But maybe they dont like microsoft related stuff at freenode.

There is this fre chat tool that can allow video but there is ads at the bottom. You can even talk to people like on the phone.
In honesty I grew out of that from AOL 4.0 QUOTE QUOTE WOOOTTTTTTTTTTTT L No I don't want to go back to that unless we are going to talk about exchanging sex pics and me going on dates with X years olds who is horny as heck. You see the kinda nonsence you made me type. No live chat please everything is balanced the way it is. |

I seem to recall some of our members trying to maintain a chat channel on IRC some time ago. It didn't work out; very few people visited it. Chat communities and forum communities are quite different in many respects. I think we are better served by focusing on being the best forum community possible.

About IRC. I myself would use it but I need a client that is superior. I have used it where it has been found people can force quit of other people using IRC with a command. The IRC is nice for freedom of exchange but there is too many "channels" to go threw. You can even open your own channel from a PC at home which is nice but at the same time confusing. Enditall IRC is not my thing especially with the ability to share files.

This shows how u r getting on with ur registered members problems The focus here is the request to consider live chat, which we have done numerous times (and even tried once). It isn't going to happen on MSFN. It's not a problem, it's a feature. And it lowers the quality of the board in our opinion, and as such we are sticking to the forum-based board as it is to keep an archive of (almost) all posted data, for others to search, use, etc. I have empathy that this feature you would like is something we will not consider at this time, but I reiterate this is not the first request for this. Answer given, post closed. |
