Report : using latest, then using nLite, I only have one MDAC update missing. HFNetChk complains about dpnetlib.dll and the two missing reg keys I reported just before (and of course, two file versions greater than expected. tongue.gif )

Thanks a lot for all your help. thumbup.gif

Also, I've found that you can remove all kernel files in I386 except ntkrnlmp.exe. They are copied from driver.cab in fact (you can read they are being copied at the end of textmode just like usual).
Don't proceed as nLite does. Just delete them by hand from I386. You see : click, Del.
It spared 2.7MB in my ISO : 118MB and all updates thank to you all. :woot:*
edit: I installed windows in VMware on both 1 and 2 processors. And from the task manager (the one from host), I can say the two processors of my P4D were used at all stages of install.

//now I have to leave this sweet P4D, 300Go RAID, for my poor laptop with a half-dead hard disk. :snif:

I included the two missing reg keys you mentioned so how come HfNetChk still isn't happy? You said that's all that's needed...

Maybe I wasn't using the good one. After 12 isos, I was quite tired.

From HFSLIP.LOG : "HFSLIP Version - 60423c"
Was it already implemented ?

Does anybody know if I can slipstream visual packs other than XPize into XP ?
Here's a list : http://packs.bricomix.net/index.php
(all packs listed use the same type of installer)
And a french description of new installers : http://bricomix.net/packs.php

Add this to HFSLIPWU.INF:
CODE
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB833987","Type",0,Update
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB914798","Type",0,Update
You can put it at the bottom.

Another option is to create an INF and throw it into the hfsvcpack folder too.

Hello everybody!
I'm not sure whether I'm writing in a right place, but...
I am confused about couple of hotfixes for WinXP which are not listed on the Tomcat's page. These are:

KB319740
KB884883
KB885222
KB885626-v2
KB886677
KB886716-v2
KB887797
KB889527-v3
KB889673
KB890831
KB893357
KB894391
KB896427-v3
KB896626
KB897663
KB898900-v2
KB900930
KB905915
KB906569
KB907265
KB907865
KB908521
KB913538
KB914798
KB914841
KB917425

What about them? Are they unnecessary? What should I do with them?
I should point that many of them are from posts of dziubek on the one of polish forums.
Of course I am considering polish versions of WinXP and hotfixes.

The hotfix lists are based on what appears on Windows Update. Most of the updates you mention are only available from the MS Download Center.

These should be OK but are untested (some are actually useful, haha):
KB319740-v5
KB884883-v8
KB885222-v2
KB886677
KB886716-v2
KB889527-v3
KB889673
KB890831
KB893357-v2
KB896626-v2
KB897663
KB898900-v2
KB906569-v2
KB907265
KB907865
KB908521
KB913538
KB914841

These are for XPSP1:
KB885626-v2
KB914798

These are superseded:
KB887797
KB894391
KB900930
KB905915
KB917425

Not sure:
KB896427-v3

The hotfix
KB908531-v2-x86
for W2K and WXP has been updated to revision v2.
The previously built in addons in hfslip are now in the patch and can be removed from hfslip.

Quite honestly... I'm not sure I understand what you mean. HFSLIP adds a line into TXTSETUP.SIF and DOSNET.INF to copy over verclsid.exe which is a new file. Secondly, support was added for the ASMS subfolder (which is needed for XPSP1). As far as I can see, both "fixes" are still needed for KB908531-v2...

hi ... i've been offline for quite a while that is why i was enthusiastic to get back online to see if there would have been updates ... tongue.gif

i was to report a probem with integrating UPHClean.msi as even if verified its presence in I386/SVCPAK directory, it seemed not to be installed as i see numerous warnings in the Event Viewer about problems with unloading profile/s ... i ended up installing the msi within Windows & not a single warning related to profiles didn't show anymore ... i browsed the thread quite swiftly & encountered somewhere that it has already been addressed with the newer vers ...

i already downloaded the latest ver & couldn't wait to create new builds later ...
HFSLIP is just so addictive that i always want to make new builds with the new versions that come up ... HFSLIP just grows on you! woot.gif

@ Super-Magician
sir, it was a typo on my part ... i really meant Windows Messenger ... my bad ... i tried equating it to offs (& some other apps) via the winnt.sif to no effect ... i used nLite instead ... thanks!

@tommyp
sir, i already read the HFEXPERT guide & apparently, most of what's posted are for Win2K ... as such I ended up using nLite instead ... i just wish there were more support for WinXP in terms of removing some other built-in apps ... i'm not demanding though for such ... it would just have been easier ... using nLite addresses such concern ... i am just wishing though to just have everything done the HFSLIP way (loyalty i guess smile.gif ... thanks!

@Tomcat76
sir, i have encountered once again the popup for a missing file: "kbdbhc.dll" (pls see attachments) while in the installation process ... although it would be easy to resolve, browsing for the said file just somehow affects the intent to end up with less manual browsing ... i wonder what happens during HFSLIPstreaming that the file ends up misplaced ... or that the path the installation follows is different from where the file is exactly located ... thanks!

btw, sirs is there a log that is generated by the entire HFSLIP process (aside from the HFSLIP.log)? ... you see it would be very informative to see what exactly is happening (even if these were just scripts running)

further, 1 particular update KB888111 (High Def audio) doesn't seem to install if placed in the HF folder ... i found out about this while running the qfecheck tool ... it does though when placed in the HFSVCPAK dir as it install at T-13 ... just mentioning in passing ...

also, XPize does not silently install despite the xpize.txt in HFTOOLS dir ...

may i just ask, it is necessary to place an expand.exe in the HFTOOLS dir (as i think i read about it somewhere here if replaced) ... although HFSLIP works excellent for me even without it ... i tried adding expand.exe & it only gave me an error which i failed to note down ... sad.gif

i have no doubt that HFSLIP can handle .msi apps but in terms of installing these in the sys, does HFSLIP handle the otehr .msi files other than UPHClean & msxml?

eagerly awaiting for your feedback again ...

This is a new file that comes with one or more of the hotfixes you add on top. Can you tell me where that file ends up on the system? Is it the SYSTEM32 directory?

I searched around a bit and KB897338 contains this file. HFSLIP needs to be updated for it. Is this a hotfix you're including?
