  1. Past hour
  2. True. You fix those with an USB cable and typing strange commands in console. Strange things are always encountered when deviating from official or just being on too old. I deleted Android Auto as it seems to be a dead end on an old phone. Maybe not if you're hacking wizard. Maybe I should buy an iPhone next time? Noticed on APKMirror Google's apps' version histories are absolutely insane. I'd say both email and smartphone already form a master key these days.
  3. Win7 required a registry hack to power down the USB port when the device connected to that port was "removed" via built-in removal. Google it, hundreds of articles on it. Here is but one of them -- https://winaero.com/fix-usb-device-remains-active-after-you-safely-eject-it-in-windows-7-or-windows-8/ Here is another -- https://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-safely-remove-usb-devices-power-off/
  4. I do not, nor ever have, used any "preload" functions. It's just a fancy way of saying "We are spying on you and trying to predict your next click, we will load our prediction in the background so that when you do make that click, we have half that page already loaded." Think about it, that means that if the "algorithm" made a WRONG PREDICTION, then the algorithm made a connection to a web site that you yourself never actually visited.
  5. Today
  6. Yes, you are most probably right. I recall this being a newer feature. Good thing we have two excellent extensions (that I know of) to deal with this: CleanLinks2 and Pure URL
  7. I don't recall Windows 7 not powering down USB device on eject. Maybe it was some strange chipset driver?
  8. What browser and version are you using? I have tried Chrome 109 and Fifrefox 110.10.0 ESR. I hit refresh the page and the written text disappears.
  9. Looking at the Thorium performance settings, I was intrigued by this - Switching u-Block off for just that page makes no difference, but if uBlock is disabled completely, the option becomes available again. This is the same in Supermium BTW.
  10. That's weird... I thought 8.0 (6.2) supported eMMC's out of box?
  11. So, try to exit "USB Safely Remove", block it from running, reboot and try to eject the HDD.
  12. Oh! It's becoming more and more interesting. So, you suggested us something you never used yourself! How then do you know they are "secure"?
  13. I did. I went from XP to 10. But still use ALL of my XP programs. No new programs other than now I use Ungoogled Chromium v114 as my web browser. Re: desktop shortcut -- https://superuser.com/questions/443162/remove-usb-device-from-command-line
  14. I am trying to determine what the best way to accomplish my goal of being able to network a modern device (Roku) as well as a some legacy computers (9x, XP) together but using some rules. I have laid out an example diagram here, and this layout is working correctly at the present time. What I want to accomplish is allow PC 3,4 and Server to see each other but not be able to see the rest of the network especially the internet. The server needs to see PC1 or 2 but not the internet. I have considered that I may need to connect a device between the DECA CHA and the Switch. I may be able to accomplish this using VLANs but I am not sure. I do not know if I need one or more than one device and where it needs to be put in the chain. I know I need a firewall of some sort. Potentially the server can bridge the two networks if need be. I haven't built the server yet. The various network equipment I have at my disposal to use to integrate into this are here, but I am unsure if any of these have the ability to do what I want (I am in the process of researching/testing them now) Cisco 2811 with 4 port HWIC Cisco 2821 (it has T1 ports but we'll pretend those aren't there) Ameri.com S53R24i Allied TeleSyn AT-8324SX CentreCOM 8224XL HP ProCurve 2910al-24G All of the above are 10/100 except the HP which is gigabit. DECA limits out at 54mbps so Fast Ethernet is fine. I also have some 100FX stuff also but that is a project for future me.
  15. Sorry...should have said don't use Windows taskbar...that is why I wanted the short cut .... I use winstep...and because of so much s*** behind the scenes it is hard for the developer to keep up... bookie32
  16. I made a simple point of information. Always wrong conclusions.......... My personal emails in a more private and secure form do not use both ProtonMail and Tutanota. And of course I will not mention in this thread which email service I use because it does not interest the OP and above all it is info that will remain strictly personal.
  17. My thoughts exactly! That user even made a dedicated topic with pushing that agenda. link
  18. I can speak to whether Microsoft fixed this DESIGN FLAW with Vista, I had already answered. It was never there, to begin with. Looks like they implemented that "design" starting Win 7 (which I can't stand!). Strange! Weren't you the one who had recently upgraded? Allegedly.
  19. Hello to everyone. I've installed Windows XP 32 and 64 bit as virtual machine with VMware 17 on my Ubuntu 23.10. The goal is to be able to boot them in UEFI mode. At a certain point of the video,he changes the boot mode from BIOS to UEFI (I can't attach urls). I did the same, but In my case it won't change. The button is greyed out. I've also converted those xp virtual machines from vmdk to img and I tried to boot them with bhyve (the hypervisor used on FreeBSD),but they didn't boot. So,I can't check if the vmdk images are able to boot with VMware because I'm not able to enable the UEFI option and I can't check if they don't boot with bhyve because they don't boot with UEFI in VMware.
  20. @user57 Not really. I have only 256 KB Cache Ram chips. With this, I can use with "Write Through" only 64 MB from the 256 installed MB. This you can see in Task Manager. XP shows the full 256 MB, but now uses only the cached 64MB from it. I order from China 1024 KB Cache chips for few Euro, but they arrive here only in May Dietmar PS: I notice a funny behavior: When I make a first try to install XP SP3 on a 486 cpu, this works but later I get a message, that "NULL" was not found, but the 486 compi works. Via this way, in "System" no entry for cpu or ram. But when I use the install from my Asrock z370 k6 board, it shows the correct ram and also the correct 100MHZ 486 cpu from AMD. And I notice, that there exists at least 2 different IDE controller for the Shuttle Hot 433 board, vers. 1..3. They are NOT compatible. One uses ESDI IDE(???) and the other the normal IDE. So, I can not make a generic XP SP3 here for all of them for download, because I have only one harddisk with 8.4 GB and so everything for this needs to be done at least 2 times.
  21. Can I have my username changed to: Arbiter1272 Thanks
  22. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but here goes! I use Explorer Patcher v22621.3296.641 and StartAllBack 3.7.8. I figured out how to have a Windows 10 style start menu using them together. Been very happy with the look and usability of Windows 11 with the 3rd party software solutions I've collected over the years. I had to reinstall the Windows 11 in early March for 2 laptops. They had different corrupt system32 files and it had to be done. I have Win 11 pro 23h2 22631.3447 and all drivers and software are up-to-date. April 23rd I received the kb5036580 update and it ruined everything! I've been searching different sites to see if anyone else has had a problem with the update and if there is a solution, but no joy! My start menu changed to Windows 11 after the update and I couldn't find anyway to get it back the way it was. I uninstalled StartAllBack and tried Start11 to see if that would work, but it didn't change the start menu either. Using Start11 previously I was able to make changes to the Windows 11 start menu that made it useable (still don't like it), but that didn't work after the update either. No way to change the new start menu. So, back to StartAllBack! StartAllBack's Windows 7 style start menu's still work! I don't like the Windows 7 start menu's after using the Windows 10 style start menu for so many years. I thought I'd give it a try though. I set it up, but I just couldn't stand it. I had to un-install the update and everything is back to normal. I know Windows update will keep trying to give me this update. I've turned off updates for now and I don't have a problem getting my updates from the Windows catalog, but I don't want this to be a permanent solution. This problem may be unique to me. Am I using EP and StartAllBack in a unique way that no one else is doing? I'm getting all the benefits from StartAllBack and have my Windows 10 style start menu, too.
  23. Unsure if that is what the OP wants or not. But I do know that is why I do NOT use Windows built-in removal function ever since using Win7 on machines at work (removing USB-based Optical Inspection cameras forced machines to reset if removed while still POWERED). This was never an issue with Embedded XP. It IS an issue with Win7 and various versions of KDE (Linux). I cannot speak to whether Microsoft fixed this DESIGN FLAW with Vista/8/8.1/10/11.
  24. i came to notice that in that screenshot i see 256 mb ram, it seems you had more success then the old 32 mb problem ?
