  2. It seems like your case has nothing to do with the specific failure(s) discussed in this thread, You are seemingly the unlucky owner of one of the worst hard disks of all times : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ST3000DM001 reportedly those drives simply fail, after some time, in the highest percentages ever recorded. These failures can - in some cases only - be repaired by professionals, no DIY available, jaclaz
  3. mixit - thanks for info. Q - on the thread for XP POS, there are recent links for updating the 2007 Compatibility Pack for Office 2003 on our XP machines. Should I also run those on my wife's Win 7 64-bit machine on which we still have Office 2003 with the Compatibility Pack?

  5. den and mixit - thanks for your patience, After fussing a bit with my Firefox, I am able to see Mixit's insert link only after both (a) importing the certificate for msfn.org and (b) clicking on the lock icon in the address bar, seeing that this page is partially not secure, clicking on the > and hitting "Disable for now". Unfortunately, that last option (the button for "Disable for now") is not available on every page. On this XP machine, I have Firefix ESR 52.5.0 (32-bit). Running FF with Add-ons Disabled didn't help. Only the steps above helped. The normal icons for moving to other pages still don't work unless I right-click and hit Open in New Tab. Why so tough?
  6. @schwups I confirm the issue. The text is visible in only-text mode, but the rest is unusable. The blue background doesn't appear with IE6(!) and Firefox 2/3, so the board is readable, but, anyway, practically unusable for the rest as for Opera.

Can you check it with dependency Walker?
  8. Root Certificates and Revoked Certificates for Windows XP

@sdfox7 Thanks for the hint, I changed the links to rvkroots.exe and rootsupd.exe.

  12. Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE

Sumatra PDF 3.1.2 or 2.2 (classic interface) will read %PDF-1.7 and also many ebook formats. Latest Kernelex required.
  13. @heinoganda The link in the first post of this thread (http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/rootsupd.exe) no longer works. I found the one available on XP's last official day of support, April 8, 2014: https://web.archive.org/web/20140408215209/http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/rootsupd.exe
  14. @Nomen @winxpi I tried the "www.youtube.com/v/(video-id)" trick. I tested with Pale Moon 3.6.32 on Windows 2000, and a Taylor Swift video on YouTube's page, and was greeted with the following:
  15. Running Windows 98 in 2017...

@Wunderbar98 There are printers available on eBay, still brand new, that are compatible with Windows 98. Such as this all in one HP PSC 1410: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-PSC-1410-All-In-One-Color-InkJet-Printer-18PPM-Black-Q7290A/191870798687?epid=1319717075&hash=item2cac640b5f:g:fK0AAOSwT6pV6ae5 I did a search for "printer windows 98": https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=printer+windows+98
  16. Latest DivX codec for Windows 95C

@assenort @PROBLEMCHYLD According to this archived link, 5.0.5 "requires minimum Windows 98", but @assenort got it working on Windows 95 C. You could probably try 5.1 to see if that works, since the requirements are the same. It's a minor point release and may still work. I'm not at a Win95 C machine ATM to test). The page: https://web.archive.org/web/20031002033025/http://www.divx.com:80/divx/ The free download link for the Standard DivX 5.1 Codec: https://web.archive.org/web/20031002033025/http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX51Bundle.exe Minimum System Requirements: https://web.archive.org/web/20031002004822/http://www.divx.com:80/divx/system_requirements.php
  17. List of Web Browsers Working with XP 2017

I tested Dooble 2.1 released 11/13/2017, does not run. This is likely due to the fact that is based on Qt 5.9, and last XP version was Qt 5.6. https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/supported-platforms-and-configurations.html Maybe someone here knows how to run it? Otherwise, Dooble 1.56 is likely the last supported/working version for XP. https://sourceforge.net/projects/dooble/files/
  18. Windows 98SE acting up on laptop?

I have not tested the drivers on Win9x/ME. It works fine on my old dell latitude C600 with Windows 98 SE /SP3/98SE2ME.
  19. Windows 98SE acting up on laptop?

PROBLEMCHYLD, please reply when you get the chance. When using your broadcom driver to download anything on Windows 9x the card often times out or breaks while downloading, thus making larger file uploads/downloads impossible.
  20. It's been over six months since I've posted in this thread, but I wanted to demonstrate that the current versions of Adobe Flash Player 27 (27 0 0 187) still work on Windows 2000. I run Win2K on my T23 with SP4, the SP4 rollup, and UURollup. The browsers tested are Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, Firefox ESR Portable 45.8.0, and Chromium 34.0.1847 (the last for SSE/non-SSE2 processors). The installers can be downloaded from here (Firefox and Chromium), and here (Internet Explorer ActiveX)
  21. NTFS support in Win 98/SE/ME?

I've had trouble in the past when using both the Sysinternals NTFS driver and KernelEx at the same time. The system would randomly freeze or BSOD at unexpected moments, but disabling one or the other worked fine.

  24. Hi, i have got a Seagate Barracuda 3000GB (ST3000DM001) which died the other day, and since i recovered some bricked routers via serial port, i hoped this also works for my hdd. there is no clicking or anything, just not available for the bios. is there a pdf or something where the pictures of the first post are still there? greets
  25. If is not compatible with generic Realtek HD driver it will not help.. HD driver would be good for XP, not for Windows 98.. for Win98 you need AC97 realtek codec / driver. Only shame any HD audio card, arent backward compatible with AC97, it would make a sense, same as SB16 compatibility.. I Check W9x section, officially supported was Intel 865 chipset, but there are some shady magic ways.. paid patches etc..
  26. List of Working Web Browsers on Windows 2000 & NT4

@tomasz86 That makes sense. I would think running anything modern on vanilla 2000 would be difficult. Sometimes it's hard enough getting modern stuff working on SP4 let alone SP0. As I demonstrated in this thread, the current versions of Adobe Flash Player require SP4, the rollup, the UURollup. IE 5.5 is also required if you plan on being able to run the plug in, because IE5 is way too old.
  27. No MSFN forums with Opera Presto engine

Thanks for the condolence. small movie
