hi!

i'd just like to ask if it would be possible to enable support of http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en in HFSLIP?

may i ask too if it's possible to reduce size by removing the ff:

i386\ASMS (10.2mb)

i386\WIN9XUPG (32.6mb)

i386\WIN9XUPG (3.97mb)

i386\WINNTUPG (1.04mb)

i know we can but would there not be problems that'd present itself later on ...

i guess trying to compress ASMS results to some errors involving some files? (not sure though)

lastly, i'd just like to follow-up if it would be possible to consider adding the time stamps (start & end) of running HFSLIP?

Adding support for it (an SVCPACK install) is trivial but I need to run this by TommyP.
may i ask too if it's possible to reduce size by removing the ff:
I'll run this by TommyP too :)

I'd prefer to have a removal file for use in HFCLEANUP. I feel the same about the CAT files...

btw, i just like to clarify, the requests i brought up should be done the HFSLIP way, alright ... :)

w/ all the removals, i am worried about i386\ASMS (10.2mb) the most

(we could safely remove the others, correct?)

Kiki, Sounds like you are on a quest for a small installation CD. Here's a hint for you. If you are working with xpsp2 in your source, you can delete your WIN**UPG folders. I don't think that there are any "normal" hotfixes that add/remove to these folders, should not get recreated when hfslip is run. I am unsure of the ASMS folders. I suppose this can be incorporated into HFCLEANUP though. Let me think about this one for a bit. IIRC, there may be some other folders you can remove as listed on unattended.msfn.org.

As far as the USB program goes, I don't feel it is required for this script. Why not install this one when you install your other programs?

as for the USB prog, that is what i actually do ... install it after the OS is done (as flash drive mgr is quite helpful esp for those getting files from here to there, etc.) ... i'm just thinking that it'd be great to have it done likewise when the script is doing its thing ...

& yes sir ... i'd like to see a small source ... without affecting any functionality so to speak ;)

btw, i have a remark about hfanswer... : is it of any use ?

i moved all it (possible) content into SET ...=... line in the main script, then i deleted the instructions pages (including gnu, drivercomp and cat removal), and i censored (walls have eyes now !)...

and now my hfslip is an unattended hfslip ;)

i think you could do the same in the DL : i mean replacing the ECHO'ed instructions by REM'ed ones, include the hfanswer content in SET lines (with REMs around) but leave censored empty.

So the user will still need to read the instructions, but all will be in a single CMD.

does this sounds good or bad to you ?

PS: to be fully honest : in fact, i'm just tired to modify it each time... :angel hopefully this is very fast with a merging tool

Yep. Whatever you saw is an internal build.

You can do that if you prefer. I figured double-clicking the answer file would be easier. But don't talk about the undocumented, OK? :D

Problem in the handling of SWFLASH.CAB on non-English systems (to be more precise: those languages for which the swflash.inf in the original Windows XP source is in Unicode format). This will be worked around.

Does SWFLASH.CAB integrate properly on English systems?

but from the very 1st page it shows:

Main program: HFSLIP_60517a

External files: HFANSWER.zip / HFSPLUG1.zip / DBLBINXP.zip

just i bit lost ... but i've aleady downloaded 517a :)

oh btw ... this means we have a little cleaning up to do on some items we have in HFTOOLS dir (i.e., remove xpize.txt & isoconf.txt), right? or would HFSLIP ignore its presence?

Tomcat, i just like to share what happened last night when i attempted to create a new build using 517a & perhaps get your insight why some things happened.

i'm once again stuck at 39mins overnight. :(

it may not be worth the worry but i saw these lines (or the likes of it that happen for different addons) passed by several times during the process:

(5) When you include this, you don't need to place hotfixes in HF that are already implemented in the Update Pack unless they are renewed. When you include LegitCheckControl.cab or a hotfix that contains LegitCheckControl.dll, HFSLIP will exclude the version that's in the RVM Pack.

(7) You need to place the relevant removal file in the HFCLEANUP folder. For now, this only works with WinXP and the file is named DBLBINXP.EXT. The files for Win2K and Win2K3 (which don't exist) should be named DBLBIN2000.EXT and DBLBIN2003.EXT respectively. WinXP list taken from RVM Update Pack.

does HFSLIP tackle the KBs (fixes) 1st over those in the addon packs (ie, ryanvm's update)?

should there be duplicates with the contents of HF folder & those that are in the update pack, which will HFSLIP prioritize or ignore?

for the removal files, these would be the add-ons from ryanvm's website too, right?

i have attached too some text files for your ref

ryanvm.txt is just the .inf file renamed fr RVMUpdatePack2.0.5.cab

nliteaddon.txt is simply about some addons i used via nLite for reducing the source (incidentally, nLite just moved these 2 files to i386\svcpack dir as .exe files) ... oh btw, could we use nLite addons too in HF? (i will experiment on this also tonight if i won't be dead tired :))

could there be anything i've done wrong that messed things up?

i suppose i missed on recompressing the cabs via nLite ...

i haven't had this frustration for a very long time ... ;)

i will be creating new builds again later ...

Can you do this:

1) Get the latest internal build

2) Download cabsdk.exe, get EXTRACT.EXE out of it (it's in the BIN subfolder) and place it in HFTOOLS

3) Remove hotfixes that are included in the RVM Update Pack

4) Remove duplicate addons

See if you still get the "File not found" messages.
