Error copying winntbbu.dll

Recommended Posts

Hello

Altavista - great guide first of all.

I have for some time now had a custom setup screen - working perfectly.

But now I've come across a problem that I cant solve.

From my first working copy to my current I have change the following:

- Small icons on the left ( the ones showing how far you are )

- Change the tekst "Completing install --> Finishing install )

- Removed the MS junk using "strings.xml"

And it works - perfectly almost that is.

When windows is copying files over at the blue screen setup I get an error at 91 % ( or so ) saying that windows havent copied winntbbu.dll corretly - its not a valid windows XP system"picture" ( translate from danish" - and gives me an option: try again, skip file or exit setup.

If I try again the same message appears, but if I skip the file installation continues as had there been no error.

When its time for my custom setup screen to appear - It boots up with the custom file - like it should.

 Why do I get that this error ?

I have used modifyPE and jcarles program - no effect

Tried without using makecab - still the same.

Sry for the long text - hope you are awake when you read this.

Regards

Pezzie

sure you used modifype correctly? That should fix the checksum... it may also be the little problem that Astalavista or someone mentioned about the date changing. Might look into that.

and just alittle minor vocab correction. It's not a "boot screen", it's more of a "setup screen" :P I'm not trying make ya mad or anything, just when some future person reads this, they don't get confused :P

Pezzie

u said something about copying... humm could it be your media?

hv u tried in VM?

can u try something out for me.

can u download the FLY winntbbu.dll i made and try it out?

and see if u still get the same error?

lets start with that first.

hopefully we can solve this mystery soon so i can update the guide.

i forgot to ask are u using nlite or something similar?

@ ClauSoft

pls also try to download the FLY.

pls also note that if u modify something outside my guide, I might not be

able to help.

@ alanoll

he error he mentioned... i hv never seen that before.

I get the same error when using the Ice Blue that I have

modded, but using everhthing else the same (files to make iso)

and a different winntbbu no error, so it must be with certain

winntbbu's that cause the error or something we are or aren't

doing, I use the modifype in color changer.

4. Did you use something other than ResEdit

5. Pls attach a copy of your Winntbbu.dll You can upload it to EZshare.de

make this into "winntbbu.bat"

start /wait modifype.exe winntbbu.dll -c
start /wait makecab.exe winntbbu.dll

Requirements

ModifyPE.exe MUST Be in the same folder as your winntbbu.dll

makecab.exe comes installed on windows, so unless u removed it its ok where it is

@Alanoll: one word corrected !

@Altavista: Im using sp2, resedit combined with resource tuner. using cd image pro - not nlite, testing in virtual pc.

I will try you fly later on today.

The timestamp has changed - to the current date on my file - i'll upload it later and post the link here.

there is an ERROR on that compressor.cmd tho

the following line:

MODIFYPE WINNTBBU.DLL -C

SHOULD be

MODIFYPE WINNTBBU.DLL -c

(lowercase c) because if u look @ modifype's help , -C isnt for what we need :)

In my SP2 dutch XP setup CD, I do have the winntbbu.dll file, but it is not compressed. It just resides on the disc uncompressed like winntbbu.dll. I also have the file winntbba.dll, also uncompressed. I'm having the same problem (error copying winntbbu.dll) when using your Christina winntbbu.dll file Astalavista.

GoeniGoeGoe

let me ask u a question.

you said u downloaded my Christina Boot Screen Setup.

what did u putting into your U.A. i386 folder?

winntbbu.dll

or

winntbbu.dl_

you said also u had an uncompress winntbbu.dll (original) in your U.A. I386 folder.

do u also have a winntbbu.dl_ (original)

Did you XP come with a computer or laptop?

there appears to be a pattern emerging now. pls give me more info.
