I haven't seen such thing on WinRar site. I've legal 3.90 version and it works without any problem. I typed the wrong number, so are you saying that 3.90 works on Windows 98? |

UltraVNC 1.0.2 is supposedly the latest 98SE compatible version. 1.0.6.5 can be installed via the kernel project but dependency problems prevent the server from functioning. Is there any alternative remote software? |

Is there any alternative remote software? I have TightVNC version 1.3.9 working very well on several Win98SE boxes. The latest is 1.3.10, but I haven't yet got round to installing it. There is nothing on the web site to indicate there might be a problem. Jeff |

Seems that the last version of Avast Home Edition for 9x is 4.8.1356. At least, the Program Update option in 4.8.1356 does not work on 98 SE, meaning that there's no update to version 4.8.1358. This post has been edited by bristols: Nov 5 2009, 06:41 PM |

And if a XP computer is being connected to, I would recommend the DFMirage mirror display driver for it as that works seamlessly too. Great freeware. |

BSPlayer 2.x The newest version 2.50 does not seem to work on Windows 98. The installer works, but the application just stops silently, just after running. So, it looks like the 2.43 is the last version working on Windows 98. The provided link: http://www.bsplayer.com/en/bs.player/home/ does not work, any longer. The link can be replaced with: http://www.bsplayer.com/bsplayer-english/p...s/bsplayer.html I do not know where the version 2.43 could be downloaded from. |

| Advanced Member ![]() ![]() ![]() Group: Members Posts: 499 Joined: 26-June 07 Member No.: 144486 OS: 98SE | UPDATE on DVDFab: Well, it looks like they finally edited their download webpage, http://dvdfab.com/download.htm , and deleted the "98/ME" in the O/S requirement box. It was there like 1 or 2 weeks ago. I have not tried the latest DVDFab stable version yet (v6.0.7.0), because I am redoing my 98SE box. I had an unfortunate harddisk issue and I didn't have a backup. Anyway, from what I gather, 98/ME support was probably dropped/broken when version 6.x was started earlier this year, but someone probably just forgot to change the system requirements to reflect that. Ironically, DVDFab version 5.1.1.0, back in November 2008, restored 98/Me functionality: QUOTE Fix: Windows 98/Me support was broken for some time, and now it's back. There is also a DVDFab 6.1.x beta, but I doubt that, and later stable versions, will fully work with 98/Me. Someone will probably have to change the list in this thread to say that DVDFab will only work from version 5.x and earlier (I don't know about early DVDFab 6.x versions though). The last version 5.x (supposedly) of DVDFab is 5.2.5.0 (April 2009). It is available on Old Apps: http://www.oldapps.com/dvdfab.php?old_dvdfab=1 |

Acronis True Image 9 is the last version to work with 98. I tried to load my version 10 and it said no way. I found several copies of version 9 available on Ebay. I have been using it to make backups each step along the way of getting my 98 up and going on my ASUS A8V-e SE. It does work, was able to revert back in about 5 to 6 minutes, much quicker than a reinstall. |

Nitro Professional 6 version 2.1.1005.0 (and presumably the entire 6 line) doesn't work as it uses the Windows 3.1 installer (thanx for telling us Nitro guys, not!). Also dig around the related PrimoPDF forum and it seems that the sister product in version 2 fries system files on a 98se system (nice!). Version 1 might play nice but doesn't do it simply. Again see the forum. Sadly, the NitroPDF forum seems to have been deep sixed by the company. Nothing like burying knowledge.

Version 6.5 works on 9x but the site also gives access to Version 7.0 in beta form. This does not work with 9x. I cannot see, when V7.0 becomes final, Trend Micro keeping V6.5 online as well as the newer version. Trend Micro Housecall Scanner V6.5 has now been removed and only V7.1 is offered. This version does not function on 9X. |
