  1. I noticed that Microsoft had reinstalled GXP twice since i deleted the original files manually. There has been a number of other memory hogs around too, like their software scanning stuff (compatlogger or something). I found that in procexp, and had to use runasti to get rid of it. The latest version of GXP control panel runs as a service, and does make all of these things that never10 does, and a few more (like actually deleting the apps, which you need to do as a trusted installer.

  2. The 1394 driver that comes with Windows 98SE is fairly generic, at least for Motherboard 1394 Controllers. I haven't found one that is not recognized. I don't have any 1394 peripherals to test with.

  3. Hello dencorso Please accept my apologies I wrote from memory, thus I failed miserably... Plus, my XP (SP2) box has been decommissioned since last November, so was not practical for me to test there, only tested on Vista SP2 without the PUS. So Fx 45.0.1 is definitely not working! But here are the full details: I used to frequent the mozillazine forums and it was there I became aware of the following bugzilla bug #1234099 ; it was this bug (and its title: Unhide Adobe GMP on Windows XP) I had in my mind when I posted here with regards to your issue... Sadly, I had not checked that bug's recent activity; it was "uplifted" to version 46, which brings us in turn to Bugzilla bug #1250766 ; comment 6 writes: ... and comment 12 writes: Today is/was a Sunday, so had some more spare time at hand; I decided to bring my XP SP2 x86 box out of storage and try myself - I installed first Firefox 46.0b9 portable and then Firefox Developer Edition (DevEd for brevity) 47.0a2[20160410] portable (both in PAF format, with separate profiles). In both Firefox versions, there is a "Primetime CDM provided by Adobe Systems Incorporated 17" entry in about:addons -> plugins, also in the profile folder exists a "gmp-eme-adobe" directory with "eme-adobe.dll". about:config has "media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled;true". But about:preferences#content does not show a "Playback DRM content" section! I tried to play back some local MP4 files, first in Fx 46.0b9 and then in DevEd 47.0a2. In both cases, playback failed, in contrast to what is stated inside #1250766. In the case of DevEd 47.0a2, browser suffers a silent crash: Firefox 47.0a2 Crash Report [@ mozilla::gmp::GMPChild::ProcessingError ] everytime I try a new MP4/M4A file. Perhaps my failure stems from the fact I'm still on SP2 (32bit), but I did not care to debug this further... You don't stand to lose anything if you yourself try versions DevEd 47.0a2_x86 or even Nightly 48.0a1_x86 (you can use the portables without affecting your normal Fx install) - perhaps in your case, with SP3(/4) installed, you may have better results. Comment 12 only mentions a test on XP (SP2) x64, so 32bit XP is not explicitly covered in that comment... Since you are very keen on having this working (playback of h264/aac in MP4 in Firefox on XP), perhaps you should join referenced Bugzilla bug and share your findings there... It appears the Mozilla Devs want this as much as you... Anyhow, again sorry for the initial false info, I do hope you soon get this sorted ! Many regards

  4. Those are the official drivers, I just manipulated the .inf file, which I'm very good at. As long as the DLL, SYS, EXE etc... not missing any dependencies, I can PROBABLY get it working. We'll have you up and running soon. Take Note I can only test hardware that I have. I can not test blind, have a nice day.

  5. Hi guys! I try to always offer my customers the opportunity of resetting their computers to factory settings...if that partition is still intact...but unfortunately that doesn't work so well as it once did...almost as soon as I reset the computer Microsoft wants to update Windows update...and more offten than not it goes pearshaped after that... I just find it a pain having to fix such problems...It has got to the point where I just don't want to be bothered any more... I try to keep an updated sysprep version that I can install.... I still get customers that are totally convinced that Microsoft knows best and they just accept what is dished out...and then others have no hair left and have decided to buy a Mac... God help is other manufacturers start adopting Microsofts way of doing things....soon we will have planes without wings....trains with out tracks....bit worrying...;) I have had two computers in a row where the customer has bought Office 2016 Home and Business...(two different computers)...I have setup Outlook for their email etc and then turned of the computer when all updates are installed... The customers have come to pick up their computers and what happpens....I start them to show them the new features of office 2016...and on both computers it has stopped working and I have had to reinstall the software.... It is embarrassing to say the least... It doesn't build their confindence in me...!! I think a lot of software from Microsoft is just plain crap!! bookie32

  6. SETUP /p i disables ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) and reverts 98SE to APM (Advanced Power Management). The only downside to this might be the loss of some power saving features; but IMO this is irrelevant especially in a system built for performance/gaming. It might be helpful to have ACPI on a system that you plan to leave continuously powered on, but otherwise I see no benefit. You will probably need to use SETUP /p i on the G31 board (I assume that's the one you're working with) if you want to be certain there are no resource conflicts in the Device Manager. Of course you can always run a normal SETUP and see what the Device Manager looks like when you reach the Desktop. If you have conflicts, especially with "Motherboard resources," or you have trouble getting the machine to Shut Down properly then I would start over using SETUP /p i. I've never needed to use SETUP /p j for anything.

  7. Microsoft continues to bleed browser share at record rates [emphasis added] A word to the wise: let that be a warning about forcing customers to do things your way... --JorgeA

  9. IPB last free version was 1.3F/2.0, afterwards they then moved into paid only. They stopped support for free version of the forum and keep that same model with the paid versions. Eventually you get to a point where you have to upgrade to the newest version or you don't get patches anymore. So a forum owner has the choice to upgrade to the newest version, stay on a vulnerable old version or switch to another forum software. Converting to a different software is way more work than updating to a new version of the same software. Especially if the forum has a lot of custom content. Also not all forum software have the same things or are only available as a mod or add-on. Suggesting to move to a different forum software is not something that can be done easily. In cases where this is done, it either involves a ton of work on the backend OR the forum starts out fresh. So switching to another software really isn't a viable option unless you absolutely have to. A recent example that I remember was Assembler, where they had a server failure and then did a conversion before relaunching the site, but that site was down for a long time in the process.

  10. And, just to make you a little bit sadder you seemingly missed that the forum, as you see it now, is NOT what the IPB guys delivered, but rather what xper - after countless hours of tweaking and adapting and setting and what not - managed to put together, and is working MUCH better than "standard", and mitigating whenever possible a large number of much worse/crazier changes and fixing a number of issues. Do a quick tour here: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/66-programming-c-delphi-vbvbs-cmdbatch-etc/ you will see how most (all?) CODE or CODEBOX tags enclosed snippets have been "merged" into one-liners. Now, if this was the first time something like this happened it would be just one among the 601 bugs, little problem being that at each major new version of the board the CODE or CODEBOX contents (or both) have been botched, one way or the other, and this particular kind of corruption cannot seemingly be fixed programmatically, as simply CR or LF or CR+LF characters vanished. So, not only they made things worse, they forced xper to waste a lot of time to fix things, AND damaged content (possibly in an unrecoverable way). jaclaz

  11. I agree this decision by Google will cost them many users. The Google Groups are blowing up right now with people unhappy by the decision. I would still highly recommend switching to Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or any of the many other supported browsers. While my fix turns off the message, you will NOT receive further Google Chrome updates. Since Microsoft will be supporting Vista for at least another year, I don't comprehend Google's reasoning for dropping support this early.
