sorry to bother ya guys but my machine was and is in need of a codec shake up due to some errors here and there so tonight i tried to uninstall VCP 470 , it failed to uninstall to my surprise , so i tried to install over itself and it failed again

the errors i`m getting when uninstalling are

after selecting uninstall from add/remove
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable

click to try again ( no affect ) enter alternate path to Vista codec package.msi

use source
C:\Users\*Username*\Appdata\Local\Temp\7zSF468.tmp

so i have looked in the 7zSF file and the msi isnt there ?? i have searched my machine and cant find the msi , yes its the installer i realise that but it looks like my lovely Vista ( hmm ) has decided to rid of it for whatever reason

so i`m stuck at the mo , cant uninstall , cant re-install

i just downloaded the latest version of the VCP but that says i need to uninstall the old one as well ..hohum

so , again , i`m sorry to bother you guys but would someone please poke me in the eye and point me to a way of uninstalling so i can have a codec shake up

regards

Gadgey

should also add its the 32bit version

I'm not exactly sure why you used the commandline installation files for your installation but in the future, please use the public redistributable from MajorGeeks to avoid this issue.

Extract the MSI from THIS 7zip archive, rightclick the MSI after extraction and choose uninstall.

Ahh , well there goes a good idea then lol , seems the version i have listed as having , WHICH to be fair is the one on my desktop and the one i assumed i had installed isnt actually the version i`m running ( buga ) if it was your uninstall should have worked

must be the Mrs thats running that version and thats why its there , i must have grabed a copy from way back when and passed it onto her , naturaly i assumed i was using the same version , well kinda naturaly anyway

i get an error pop up after doing as you said saying , its already installed and to remove the previous version again , DOH !!!

now i`m not even sure what version i`m running ...ever get the feeling you can help some of the people some of the time ....

so going on and thinking i may be able to find a version number in the VCP folder i had a look see but alas i cant find a version number ??

sorry to try your patience but would it be possible to ask where i may find the Ver No so i can come back and grovel for another msi ... *cringe*

so far and doing my best to use my noodle at this early hour i have found the date for the licence rtf as 16/2/2007 20:17 , not sure if this helps at all though , i`m trying though honest , as i`m sure i`m being a pain which is non intentional , its Vista`s fault for messing up the uninstall file ...

and the command line install you mention is news to me ?? i wouldnt even no how to go about it , perhaps my bro did it when he was on here lol but i`m sidetracking now , as usual , is the date on the rtf any help or will i be able to find the Version number somewhere else

Go to the Control Panel / Programs and Features ... highlight Vista Codec Package
top of the window, left heading, organize / layout ... click on Details Pane

Expand the window to full screen, now a version # can be seen in the lower pane.

on the upside
all this can be helpful to others who do a search with a sim problem i guess

and that was a great tip , i hadnt realized that was an option in add/remove

back to the msi in question ... i can say without doubt i am running ver 4.3.6 Shark , so with much groveling and apology's could i please ask for the relevant msi, odviously at your own leisure
