Because i can't play this file:
http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_9115_en.html (WMV version)
with media player classic without doing so first via Video decoder configuration.
note: WMP11 plays it with or without libavcodec so this only affect media player classic (VCP version and home cinema).

I have tested using the ffdshow VC1 decoder on several occasions over sever months.
My conclussion until your post: There is no reason or advantage to switch VC1 decoders. Both function well.
Now I have both a reason and an advantage to swap VCI decoders.
Consider it done for the next release.

Wait........ I don't get it. What is so different about this one VC-1 encode that it requires this? I go to that site all the time, have watched numerous VC-1 encoded files, and I've never seen anything respond like this one does.
Is it really worth switching the decoders all for the sake of one file? Will there be a option to switch back to the 'old' way? I just wanna understand the why and how of all this.

i'm not sure if there are any other consequences and it only happened to me with this file and iron man blu ray sample, both are very high resolution.
and it only affects media player classic, windows media player 11 is fine with either decoders.
and yes, switching between them is easy.
