Had always been able to play streaming media (.asx file type) through Windows Media Player with previous versions of Vista Codec Package installed. Got update to 5.02, uninstalled older version and new version will not install, getting "Error 1402: HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Extensions\Types. and the installation rolls back and does not install. When I navigate to this key, it gets to the 'extensions' key, but the 'types' key is not there. No VCP is showing installed, trying to play in WMP .asx files currently produces audio but no video. Downloaded and installed VideoLan (VLC Media Player), oddly all plays normal but I'd prefer not to use it. Saw a thread here about disabling video overlay in VLC, but that did not work for me. Never had any problems with any previous versions of VCP, liked it so much I donated to the author.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If more info is needed, just ask. Vista Home Premium SP1, Intel Dual CPU. Thanks.
