Can anyone please tell me a good antivirus (with version) for my 32 bit Vista Ultimate OS.

NOD32 if you want a paid A/V. Avast if you want a free one

you can try Eset's Smart secuirty Beta, its free as it is beta.

eventhough most people hate it I've used panda antivirus for years and never had a problem.


FYI: If you do try it make sure it's called panda antivirus 2008 and not panda internet security. I had some problems with that program.

i used when i had vista, nod32 and macfee AV ver 1.2 [not the 1]

and u should set off ur windows firewall while using macfee

Kaspersky in Vista works fabulously.

Just like XP, Vista doesn't need an Anti-Virus installation.

As an occasional check, just use ClamWin Portable 0.91.2

That's the kind of thinking that leads to outbreaks.

Fortunately not, it's 'not thinking' that leads to outbreaks.

I truly wish, as an IT Manager, it was simple a matter of user knowledge. However, with more and more varied attacks, such as the WMF method, user knowledge, and smart computing habits aren't always enough. That's why, with consideration given to the fact some good, free AV packages exist, there's no way to really argue against running one. It's been a long long time since they had any real affect on system performance either.

For the 32 bit versions of Vista,
AVG 7.5 FREE, anti-virus, that we've been using for ages,
works just fine. For the 64 bit Ultimate version of Vista,
you would need the Full Retail version of AVG.

I have both and use both. I install the FREE version for all
my customers getting new PC's with Vista pre-installed.
They love the automatic daily update feature.

Get the free one here:

World famous AVG FREE will keep your computer free of viruses,
trojans, dialers, etc.
By default, it updates and scans for viruses on a daily basis.

Scroll down the page to "FREE Downloads" and then click on:

That takes you to the next page where you can select:

Save the file to your desktop and run the install from there.
If you have an older version of AVG free already installed,
use the 'Repair Install' option when installing v. 7.5.
Immediately get updates. More than one may be required.

I've seen avast recommended here already, but I too will recommend it. For a freeware antivirus it is an excellent product. I would however advise you avoid AVG's Antivirus as it misses viruses often, and the few it manages it find it doesn't know how to properly handle them.

I used avast on Vista Ultimate (32bit) while I was beta testing it. It will work perfectly fine, no issues at all and it won't slow down your system either.

I'd go along with NOD, been using it for several years without problems.

I use SpySweeper with Anitvirus - works a treat (apart from email attachment scanning over SSL - but it's a new feature)
I prefer this product as spyware and malware are just as troublesome as viruses these days - and this packages deals with it all.

KAV or NOD32. Both are top notch AV.

i like avast home edition, avast has even created a vista skin for their product.
