I'm installing longhorn 4051 on a seond machine just to have a play, I have it running on another using Virtual pc and it works fine. however when I try to install it on my stanalone machine it runs through the setup reboots then gives me the NTLDR missing error, any advice on how to fix this please.
gosh
well is ntldr on the boot partition? Make a new boot.ini using bootcfg from recovery console. If you've used anything like partition magic; it can cause that error. drive overlays cause the same problem.

Thanks for the advise, as a matter of fact I did format the drive prior to installation using Patition magic from the super utilities disk. I'll give it a go.

Also about the NTLDR thing, I know you said you got it working, but for others who are usinf an old version of nero to make the cd bootable, there is a reg edit that must be done I guess to make that work. Sorry I dont remember the site where I read that anymore and so this probably isnt much help, but if you did a google search for the exact error you get on boot up, you might stumble across what I read. Ill try and find it if I can and post it here.

K, luckly I found it stll in my history. This is the site: http://www.mycompaqserver.com/cgi-bin/wpub...ts.cgi?view=458

This is what it said on the site if you dont want to go there:
**************************************
(Error) CDBOOT: Could'n find NTLDR
(CURE) You need to disable ISO file version extensions.
On newer Nero versions click the "ISO" tab and make sure that option "Do not add ';1' ISO file version extensions" is checked.
On older Nero versions this option is not present and you will have to edit the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\General\AddISOFileVersion
Set the value to 0 (zero)
Then re-write the CD again.

hi, about longhorn, it's good i have updated my XP to longhorn..
that NTLDR is missing error is not so good, i can't axplane everything but NTLDR is yout bootsequentie for windows, if that is missing you must reinstall Windows or fix it with the setup CD
