I recently bought a Seagate Freeagent pro 500GB external drive. So far I have tried with SATA to ESATA brackets and 2 differenet brand eSATA cables, but for some reason my Vista won't recognize the drive. I have done all the basic stuff like loading new bios, loading drivers, enable RAID in bios , enable SATA ports in bios etc. Can someone recommend a good eSATA controller and eSATA to eSATA cable that will surely work with this drive?

I tried the drive on 2 different machine - one with builtin eSATA port and other with sata to eSATA bracket. Same issue.

Any eSata cable - bar the cheapest of the cheap - should be fine.

If I were looking for one, I would get one of these SATA cards - purely because they would work with the software linked to on the page - and use a separate PCI slot bracket to convert one of the connectors to eSATA.
