A few moments ago I saw Dell's new XPS one advertised on their site. It had been "leaked" before, but unless I'm clueless, this is the first it's been for sale. I must say, it looks sweeeeeeet. I wish I had enough money for one. It's basically a whole computer (and a pretty powerful one at that) all in one slim, pretty case, monitor built in. AWESOME!

For a dell, it's not very customizable when you buy, but hey, the defaults aren't bad, and it looks amazing.

Gateway has one of these too. I like the looks of theirs better though (but the gateway seems to be available in with modem and without modem being the only options)

I personally like dells better than gateways over all. Just my bias.

I prefer gateways design over dells - the gateway has 1 cord going to the back of it and nojacks clustered at the back -all the standard motherboard type connectors are on the power brick

plaus the gateway looks like its all 1 piece and the dell looks like a monitor on a stand with speakers attached. plus it has a gimpy keyboard (the touchpad is a nice touch but i wanna numpad)

Gateway uses laptop parts inside so there design can be made a lot slimmer then the Dells.

Dell uses "normal" PC parts but still, there will be not much you can do when swapping out parts, screen, PSU and mobo are not standard.


I would buy neither by the way...

You can do the same thing with the Dell if you use a wireless network (provided you also use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, such as the ones that come with it). Given that scenario you only have the power cord going into the back of it.


I wouldn't either (for me), but there's a lot of LAN party goers that will though. The screen is bigger than what's available with laptops.

I would, however, love to have these sitting on our desks at work. So much less clutter.


And yeah, Gateway's looks like nothing more than a laptop without a hinge/lid. I like the Dell design much better.

I have DJs as customers here for example; we mount the LCD screen to the right side of the computer. At the back of the computer we mount 2 bars to protect the connectors from breaking/bending. I’m always worried that these All-in-one systems get overheated. Laptops for example are no-go for these DJs. I believe that for LAN party freaks it will be the same...

Well, truth to be told, if I had enough money for one I probably wouldn't buy one either. But it does look pretty cool. I guess I would be worried about replacing/upgrading, since it's such a non-conventional design.
