and, you gotta ristndrd.sif here:

drive:\RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\WINDOWS\i386\templates

which one needs to be the one updated and which one doesnt matter?

Your right, the .sif file(s) in the \templates are used by RIS.

Yes you can have more than 1 .sif in templates. This way you can add different stuff in [GuiRunOnce] while using the same i386 source. Or making a .sif for AutoPartition (using the whole disk) and another .sif for manual partitioning.

The .sif in \i386 can be ignore when you using RIS because it's used for making an unattended cd.

try and give each sif file its own logical name, so if you are doing a ris install of xpsp2 on a HP laptop you could call it hplapxpsp2.sif

and so on, after a few years of creating sif files you'll be glad you did

and in fact, the RIS server will complain that the 'message from the server was too big' if you have too many SIF files in your templates folder, to resolve simply create a sub dir in it and call it 'old_sifs' or something, then cut/paste the oldest or most unused sifs into there.

cheers
