I cannot view new posts, the go to new post button/link no longer works for me.
tain
It works for me in Opera.
Martin L
IE7 works fine too.
jcarle
I understand it works for a lot of you, but it does not work for me. I think a lot of you know me well enough to know that I'm not having a browser issue that I'm aware of. I'm using XP Pro with IE 7.
GrofLuigi
It doesn't work here too (Opera 9.50 beta, version 9745 and few versions before). Although I have some non-standard user javascripts that sometimes break entire javascript functionality, at least this feature (go to new post) worked until December.

I think the reason might be, for example with this thread, that the button that points to the latest post of this thread is:
CODE
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=111182&view=getnewpost
while the actual page when opened has the URL modified like this:
CODE
http://www.msfn.org/board/post-broken-t111182.html&pid=730511#entry730511
Notice that it has part of the topic title in the URL.

I hope it's fixed now.

Yes it is! I would have posted earlier, but thought it was just my weird Opera configuration, hard to troubleshoot.

Thank you.

Didn't mean any offense. Just trying to build a complete picture for the admins so they can address it quickly and effectively.

Don't know what you did, but it works like a charm now. Thanks.

Today it's broken again. Just goes to the top of the thread, same way as described in my post #5 in this thread.

I switched to Opera 9.50 beta 9789 today. Probably that's the cause, but I just wanted to report/see if anyone else is experiencing the same.

But, because the links are again containing part of the topic title, I think something else in the forum platform was changed. The style of links shouldn't depend on the browser, should it?

GL

*Edit: reverted to Opera9.50 beta 9770 and all is good now. The new version is b0rked, also on other sites. Sorry for hijacking the thread.

GrofLuigi
...And today it's broken again. Not a BYTE touched in my config.

Again, just goes to the top of page, not to any post.

Don't know what to think of it? Once a month, like clockwork...

No problems here.

Perhaps this is similar to the Google SEO bug that resets people's thread format preferences?

No problems here.

Perhaps this is similar to the Google SEO bug that resets people's thread format preferences?

I don't know what Google SEO bug is, but my preferences are OK (they are not changed). I had problems in the past with setting thread options, but if I set them in another browser, they are remembered.

As per my post #5 in this thread, the situation now is similar, but slightly different:

The link on the button "go to latest post" (of this thread) says:
CODE
http://www.msfn.org/board/post-broken-t111182.html&view=getnewpost
but when I click on it (either just click or right click -> open in new tab) it becomes just:
CODE
http://www.msfn.org/board/post-broken-t111182.html

...

UPDATE: while I was browsing back and forth copying the above links, it started working. Now the links passed are in the form of
CODE
http://www.msfn.org/board/post-broken-t111182.html&pid=746576#entry746576
that work correctly.

So I think this is proof that there is something changing (not necessarily broken, because it works for other people) on the server side - this is happening in one browser session, no preferences invoken, no visits to other sites - interminnent results. And of course I have no malware on my computer.

Again, that's why I hesitated to report it several times before - this is something that's difficult to catch, but very annoying when it happens. At one time (not now) I reinstalled Opera, wiped its preferences and erased all user javascripts I use (btw they are not so complex/featurebreaking - add ALT image, script spoof (wiped a month ago), detect window close) - it made no difference.

I really would appreciate if another Opera user confirmed that 'Go to new post' feature works all the time for him/her.

I'm an Opera and don't usually have issues. The only time I have experienced this problem is when we've enabled/disabled SEO. The transition isn't easy on Opera. But clearing cookies/cache does the trick every time.

There is also an issue with URL rewriting and the symptoms are similar. But I haven't had a problem with that in some time now.

Finally I found a way to make it reproducable:

Let's take one thread (this thread). If I click on 'getnewpost' button twice - it works 100% the SECOND time. If I click too fast (i.e. the first instance isn't fully loaded - it doesn't work. If I click once - doesn't work (as I described above).

When it works (was clicked twice) it doesn't matter whether the first click was on the 'getnewpost' button or the topic title itself.

So it seems some component (javascript?) that Opera needs is loaded too late.

Am I good troubleshooter or what? smile.gif

Sorry, that scenario doesn't apply to my instance of Opera. It works no matter how I click.

Another thing to consider: My Opera often won't jump down the page until *all* of the page is loaded. So if there is some image in a sig that isn't loading for me then Opera will "hang" at the top of the page instead of jumping down to the proper point. Does this happen to you, too?

My Opera is configured to "show cached images only" (that makes it super-fast woot.gif ) so I haven't noticed. In rare times when I set it to "show all images" it didn't hang on any picture. But I've seen that on other places (& other browsers). I've reinstalled Opera and wiped preferences again - no go.

Interestingly enough, I installed Safari 3.1 for windows and it shows the same behavior. wacko.gif It hasn't much to configure, so I can't imagine what could have I done wrong.

Internet explorer 6 works (but has no tabs and is uncomfortabe; and I don't intend to install 7 right now).

Firefox doesn't even log in. Just returns to the main page unlogged in. blink.gif

Could this be the problem?

CODE
<script type="text/javascript"

  src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

</script>

That's blocked in my hosts file. (I didn't put it there, downloaded them all). whistling.gif
