fred_gaou, On my setup (slipstreamed sp3 over xp pro sp2 using nLite 1.4.5 Final) I had some different results then yours, however i had some other settings too, but here's what I got.

temp_dir = %SystemDrive%\Temp - works.
My Computer-Add Device Manager to Context Menu - works.
My Computer-Add Event Viewer to Context Menu - works.
My Computer-Add Registry Editor to Context Menu - works.

Boot and Shutdown-Disable automatic restart on System Failure - didn't work for me not even in the 1.4.5b2 (same setup, slipstreamed sp3 over xp pro sp2), wonder wha' happen' blink.gif

That's what i can confirm so far.

Cheers,
fred_gaou

What about IE icon on desktop or at least in the start menu? Is it here?

mmmh... I wonder what would happen if I slipstreamed SP2 on SP0 before I add SP3. May sounds crazy or at least useless but... Did someone try that?

I look forward to testing a next release that corrects some stuffs or at least other feedbacks about slipstreamed SP0 with SP3. Some claims SP0->SP3 (using slipstreaming) should not be a problem. However SP2->SP3 seems to product different effects, so... confused.gif

what about SP0->SP2->SP3 in the same breath using nlite slipstreaming? Will the result be the same as SP2->SP3? Calls for testing newwink.gif I'll do if nobody hasn't did it yet.

PS: I've updated my previous post cause slipstream SP3 causes at least an issue: I noticed that my dependency tabs were missing in the service setting boxes. No other tweaks or components remove, just slipstream SP3 on SP0 XP PRO (nLite 1.45 final)

This have nothing to do with nLite, something else is the cause. nLite simply use switch for integration, so that can not be the problem. It is SP3 itself, or your installation is corrupted.

Cheers newwink.gif

So as I said above, I made a new slipstreaming test: SP0->SP2->SP3

The result is very positive, almost everything seem to work like a charm. The previous failures I noticed directly doing SP0->SP3 have disapeared. thumbup.gif

I start playing with v1.4.5 and WinXP Pro GOLD + SP3 Final. No problems so far, although I have to pay attention with the new network components. Some of them should not be removed I suppose.

Too bad SP3 doesn't include IE7 and WMP11. That's really a shame!
IvanVL
I have built in sp3 ie7 wmp11, have removed not the components necessary to me (adjustments in the attached file), are 2 mistakes: 1. After the first reboot, the fitter does not define a disk in the device, after extraction and insertions of a disk can back work with it. 2: IE7 it is not started, in what a problem, prompt!
(win xp pro, nlite 1.4.5 final, framework 2.0, 3.0)

also be sure u have wmp11 slipstreamer installed before running nlite

Thank you very much nuhi for all of the work and time that you put into making nlite. I was using windows 98 up until 2004. That was the year that I discovered nlite v .98. I had a slow computer and I didn’t want to load the full version of windows xp. You and nlite helped me make the switch-over to windows xp. I’m a happy nlite user and I love those tweaks which saves me a lot of time. smile.gif

Vista Key issue fix?

Yeah, the specific fixes are:
- Slipstream update.exe directly (when you extract SP)
- Slipstream XP SP3 into XP RTM (SP0) under Vista, CDKey issue

Both of them rare so better be silent and deadly.
Kirby
finally got some time to play around and duplicate my problem. However, I just noticed that all 4 new SP3 services are tied into each other in some way:

'Wired AutoConfig' needs 'Extensible Authenticating Protocol Service'
'NAP' needs 'Extensible Authenticating Protocol Service'
'NAP' needs 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service'

I am going to try removing 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service' this time (and NAP too, since it requires this service to run). If I can reproduce the wireless problems on this new reinstall, then 'NAP', 'Extensible Authenticating Protocol Service', and 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service' will have to be placed in the compatibility list. Only 'Wired AutoConfig' can be safely removed.

back after a reinstall newwink.gif

edit> back from reinstall....and I reproduced the problem smile.gif I'm reading in BlackViper's services information that only the 'Remote Procedure Call' Service is required for 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service'. I guess I'll try another reinstall

edit 2> did another reinstall....this time removing only 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service' (and ignoring all nlite warnings about dependencies)....and my wireless connection works normally. By process of elimination, removing NAP causes all my wireless problems

Also, you might wanna relook at the dependencies of each new SP3 service.....because removing 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service' caused no ill-effects when it comes to running the NAP service. You might wanna recheck what nLite has down for the dependencies of these new services
Guillaume
Can I manually add the missing visual styles to the dropdown box under Display Settings - Appearance?
zeroman_ltk
In previous versions, after finishing, nLite created $OEM$ folder (in my UXP folder) with CMDLINES.TXT:
CODE
[Commands]
"rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection nLite.inf,U"

But in this version, the $OEM$ folder wasn't created. I check I386 folder, and NLITE.INF still exist.

Somebody can explain it for me ?
Guillaume
nuhi, forget the thing about the visual styles not being present in the 'Appearance' tab. That's just a stupid thing I didn't know: the .msstyles file has to have the exact same name as the directory it is in. If not, Windows will not list it in the drop-down list under 'Windows and buttons'.

Example:
\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna Element\LE5.msstyles WON'T work
\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna Element\Luna Element.msstyles WILL work
Kirby
I spoke too soon....I did another re-install with all the new SP3 services removed EXCEPT FOR 'NAP'....and now my wireless card is screwing up again....

I'll do yet another re-install....this time keeping both 'Health Key and Certificate Management Service' and 'NAP'.....maybe something is intertwined between the 2

edit> I am definitely overlooking something....cause keeping these 2 services causes the same problems.....I guess I'm going to try keeping only the 'Extensible Authenticating Protocol Service' this time
eryen
After i added afew addons. my sysoc.inf file is still untouched.

Is there any problem ??
Kirby
Okay....I think I finally got this down....please ignore all my previous ranting tongue.gif

Services not to remove for wireless cards:

Extensible Authentication Protocol Service
Network Access Protection Agent

I am pretty sure of this now.....I just wasted my whole night re-installing tongue.gif

We should slipstream SP3 on WinXP SP0 right?

WinXP Pro SP0:
before: 484MB, after slipstreaming SP3: 586MB

WinXP Pro SP2:
before: 574MB, after slipstreaming SP3: 634MB

48MB more blink.gif wacko.gif

From vanilla cd only SP3.cab, Components and dotnet folders etc.
From SP2 source. SP2.cab and other files came with SP2

U may merge driver.cab with sp3.cab
Also u may delete component and dotnet folder if u dont use.

Kirby, neither service is required in order for the wireless card to work correctly, however they may well require WPA (built-in to Windows) to be enabled also. I use the excellent WiFiHopper, which does not appear to have any internal Microsoft file/service dependencies.

I do remember saying that my wireless card does work with these services removed.....just that scanning for a network is broken and that I could only connect manually by inputing the SSID name of the router
jmbattle
Kirby, for your information, below is a screenshot of my nLite'd system, you will note that a considerable number of services have been removed/disabled, yet wireless networking is working correctly.

you use wifihopper to scan for networks.....I don't. If you want to use Window's wifi-scanner, then don't remove those 2 services. As I said (for the 3rd time already), internet connections will still work as long as you input the SSID name of the router manually.

I did download the latest version just yesterday evening, version 1.4.5.4. I downloaded this exact same version (1.4.5.4) a couple of days back too but i noticed yesterday that the executable nlite.exe had a slightly different filesize. I already build a system from scratch yesterday evening with the latest version of nLite but i still have the CDKey issue.

The 'old' CDKey issue was with running nLite on a Vista machine and creating an image for XP 32bit with SP3, but i want to create a XP 64bit SP2 (there is no SP3 for XP 64bit).
I am afraid that this is the reason that i still have the CDKey issue?
DonDamm
I don't know if this is relevant, but since there is an admitted problem slipstreaming SP3 into XP on a Vista machine (http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=22398) and this seems to be an issue with nLite sometimes, the solution I found for the slipstream problem might help. What the article didn't mention is that running the integration under compaibility mode for XP seems to work fine - at least it did for me under Vista in a VM. Have you tried running nLite in compatibility mode? I haven't yet played with 64-bit Vista, so I can't say either way, but it's worth a shot.

Just tried version 1.4.5.5 with Compatibilty mode XP SP2. Used an old session (is this okay?) and created a new image. My problem with the CD key is still there when creating a XP x64 SP2 image under Vista Ultimate x64.

You are using Vlite for creating vista image, and the key from nlite session shows up under creating the vista image?
Use Nlite for Pre-vista, and Vlite for Vista and server 2008.

We should slipstream SP3 on WinXP SP0 right?

Please see an answer to this question here newwink.gif

Thanks, here is my experience:

WinXP SP0 to SP3:
- removing components --> no problem
- a few tweaks --> no problem
- options --> no problem

I can confirm this too!

Loaded a preset created with some of the previous versions of nLite (but not too old). Made some adjustments and created ISO. Seems to work OK, not burned/installed the ISO yet (don't have enough time), but I noticed some of the options from the old preset were not present in the Last Session.ini. They are:

Boot and Shutdown-Setup Prefetch-Cache-Disabled
Explorer-Disable Accessibility keyboard shortcuts
Explorer-Launch folder windows in a seperate process
Performance-Enable USB Idle Endpoint support
Start Menu-Disable popup on first boot
Visual Effects-Smooth edges of screen fonts-ClearType
Windows Media Player-Disable silent acqusition

While working with nLite, I didn't check specifically for these items, but everything seemed fine, just the way I always do it. Are these tweaks:

a ) removed from nLite?
b ) removed from XP SP3? (the previous preset MIGHT have been from SP2)
c ) moved to another place in nLite? (but there were no new entries similar to them)
d ) a bug in nLite? (forgot them)?
e ) my mistake? (should've started from scratch, but then why have Import Last Session Ini anyway?)

This was checked by doing text compare of the Old Preset.ini and Last Session.ini. When I install the CD, I will know more, but sometimes some of the tweaks don't 'take', so...

Which letter is it? smile.gif

Take me, Take me !
I know the answer !
It´s e) !
You´re here as long as me.
So some basic stuff seems to slip from the memory due to habits.
NEVER EVER USE A PRESET, THAT HAS BEEN CREATED WITH A FORMER VERSION !
Even the slightest x.x.2 update makes your former presets unreliable or even completely fails it.
It´s in the "sticky" !
