Nuhi, are all the registry changes that nLite makes inside of nlite.inf? Or are there other registry changes (maybe even deletions) added directly to some of windows own inf files? How do you organize the changes Nuhi? I'm just curious, I don't want to reverse engineer it. I have my own inf file, and I'd like to consolidate.
FYI, for you newbies, you have to type the following command to expand the nlite.inf file (you must be in the path of i386):
expand -r nlite.in_

Hi, guys!
I tried to use nLite to make a distro for my Asus EEEPC.
I would like to avoid explaining why not to use an external CD/DVD,
but the trouble of many chaps from russian EEEPC-forum is that sometimes we need to
boot from DOS-USB flash drive, that has a distro (i386) on it - to initiate a setup process through simple winnt.exe.
When we use nLited distro there is no winnt.exe at all! We failed to clear up what should be tuned in nLite to
preserve winnt.exe. Simple copy of winnt to nLited i386 distro does not help.
Any advice?
Thak you.

Hi nuhi,
Yeah, it's Windows 2000 using USP5. The popup appears almost immediately upon startup, so I can't even get into the initial screen. Like I said, it was working fine until I put a second install of 2K on another hard drive, then it wouldn't work again once I went back to my original one.
The only thing I see there that makes sense to me is kernel32.dll. In case it's any use, the version is 5.0.2195.7135.
Thanks!

The problem is with how you use the FileMove.
What is that star at the end for?
[FileMove]
NETFX.CAB,..\cmpnents\netfx\i386\
*Btw enable reports in the Hotfix page and it will tell that the path has an illegal character in it. Gotta see why this doesn't popup normally because it is an critical error.
I tried it without the star and it's fine.

nuhi, please can you give some more info on this item from 1.4.8 changelog:
"fix: Out of memory error with some addons"
As i've experienced this error a few days ago and streaming video from my cable box is resulting in out of memory errors. The only addon i'm using is: XP_SP3_UpdatePack_072008-r04.7z. I removed window messenger, msn explorer other than that just used some regtweaks. Praying that this is my problem, thought it might be a hardware problem, hope you can reply quickly so i know whether or not to format.
I had several GB spare on each partition btw and i've got 4GB ram and quad core @ 3.5ghz so it's definately not low on resources.

It was due to infinite loop mistake is some rare occations during integration, not the Lite Windows operation.
Your stream player probably has some sort of memory deallocation issue or maybe an infinite loop. Report to the authors of whatever program or driver you're using.

Is the language removing bug fixed yet? I decided to wait until it's done until I re-format.
I decided to try and do something about this myself
this is what i have come up with so far-
---start of file
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"CTFMON.EXE"=-
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"CTFMON.EXE"=-
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"CTFMON.EXE"=-
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"CTFMON.EXE"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF]
"Disable Thread Input Manager"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\MSUTB]
"ShowDeskBand"=dword:00000000
--end of file---
Now S-1-5-19 and 20 there may or may not be needed, but i guess it cant hurt to have regedit try to delete them.
I havent got much info on showdeskband and the other one there, but it was what microsoft kb was recommending, as far as my english could tell me.
I did this since i will have to make a install for other folks, who will want the language options, but not the language bar running in itself.
ALSO i havent had time yet to check for other places for d.t.i.m and showdeskband, then current user, might add it to system etc as well.
If anyone could confirm or not on this, i would like to know, please dont hesitate to pm me on this subject.
edit: in nlite.inf there is actually:
HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run","ctfmon.exe"
Which i think got there since i tried to use my native language as regional settings with nlite.

There is one thing i would like to see in future nlite, and that is simply possibility to review the changes nlite will make to the windows source folder, and editing them.
Then one could really easily create a very tight source. In short i would like to have more control.
More ON topic however; i simply removed dosnet.inf as well as removed all files for doing upgrade installs.
Now nlite bitches about missing dosnet.inf etc. Well install in vmware went perfect without it, not modified by nlite, clean image otherwise. What gives?
Trying to run the install in vmware, after using just options bar in nlite (settings windir, and usb patch etc) on install xp asks for sp2.cat as well. Setup does continue after clicking cancel for the file on 2 popup boxes.
Now since the install ran just fine before i nlite modded it, i guess its nlite or what?

No it isnt corrupt. I have simply removed files not needed for a normal windows installation. It's nlite that wants the files. I ran the install and vmware, and while i got error messages, the install went thru.
I then added back dosnet.inf for x64 sp2 source, and no other changes, and nlite gave no errors and no errors during install.
So i know what i am doing =) (Btw: i am not the guy who was trying to do x64 slipstreaming from 32bit, even tho i say that that works, you sound confused.=))
I just think its weird that nlite relies on this dosnet.inf file and cant use txtsetup instead that windows itself will work with.
It might be that an real install would fail, i dont know, and dont have an extra hd to test on atm, but i am intrigued.

Hotfix integration failed (Source XP X64 SP2 english/US, applied booogy's wmp11x64 with all hotfixes to that end): KB948046 New Printer drivers. 0.3.6001.22116
This fails to install with nlite, installs on manual. Reason why is probably because nlite will *not* integrate
Windows European Union Expansion Font pack, which is just fonts, so also weird =)
Temporary solution, install via batch file with updates. There's actually v2 of Win E.U.E. Font pack which includes
them drivers as well.
KB941602 Veritas® LDM diagnostic utility 5.2.3790.4235 This installs on manual install. Not really needed, not many of us has 1024 volumes or more on computer xD
Still, it wouldn not integrate with nlite. Funny, because it is just one exe file update.
KB947186 Client for NFS service 5.2.3790.4297 This hotfix installs on manual, even tho it should not according to KB article (says it for 2003 R2 only).
Should also add i runned that nlite run with 150+ hotfixes/misc. I would be very happy if the euro font pack was doable, tho i have workaround for it.
2 last hotfixes here mentioned, DO INTEGRATE if all hotfixes are renamed so name is only KB123456.exe, strange.

No that wouldn't do, but i created the path variable myself. I was sure %profiles% was a system path set by windows as default? At least google kind of confirms my suspicions on that.
I've never really needed the variable up until now.
If i were to use profile path as you suggest, that would lead me to all users or current user profile, which wouldnt help me at all.

That should get you where you want to go with:

were the SP3 wireless network locator dependencies kept in the 'compatibility' mode for DHCP this time?

any update on the x64 SP2 languages removals? -some were being left over
TranceEnergy
Sep 1 2008, 11:22 AM
I just took xp x64 with sp2, english us, and select to remove everything.
92 languages left that are selectable for removal.
In 1.4.8 it also left outlook express, so there's progress! ;D
However i think the situation is a bit dependent on the localization of the windows cd, or settings in some file like unattended, however i didnt choose unattended just remove and patches.
I tried to run it 3 times, still 92 languages left. All under "Western Europe and United States".
Since the ISO is US english version, im kind of suspecting therein is the problem, somehow.
BTW: some time ago i went through all the NLS files with NLS Viewer, think that was the name of program, which told me what language the files were.
It couldnt find out even half of all the languages of what the files were tho. I sent in my findings to its author but got no answear so kind of screwed.
If anyone has a good way to find out what the different nls files are i'd love to hear it.
