I'm looking at the Intel Atom. Do you guys think it has enough power to record & compress:

VIDEO: 4 streams of 640x480 + 1 stream of 320x240 and AUDIO: 2 mono streams of 22khz. At the same time?


Its for a DIY passive car security system running 24/7.

Forget it, each stream needs a 350MHz CPU at least... so let’s say you will need some 1.5GHz to do the 4 streams, not to forget the I/O power that is needed...

Remember, the Atom is an in-order processor. It wasn't designed to be "the fastest", it's designed to be "fast enough" for the devices it's aimed at...which is ultra-mobile devices and low-end desktops used for internet/email only. Intel actually sacrificed some performance to make it a very low power CPU (electrically).
