I have some USB flash drives and USB hard drives. They are un-named un-branded ones.
Is there a way to know if they are USB 1.1 or 2.0, etc?
Tripredacus
When you plug a 1.1 device into a 2.0 port, it will give you a message on the screen saying the device can perform faster. Other than that, there really isn't another way that I know of.

I thought you get that balloon message when you plug in a USB 2.0 device to a USB 1.1 port in the computer.
Is it true the other way around too? (i.e. a USB 1.1 device plugged to a USB 2.0 port)

Yeah, you have it right. Plugging a 2.0 device into a 1.1 port will give you the balloon message. Plugging a 1.1 device into a 2.0 port doesn't give you any message at all.
