The thing is, the Hosts file is not meant for blocking malware and other elements on the web. I've written an article about this which you can read.
Blocking Malware and Advertisements Safely.

Spybot S&D has an "Immunize" option, which blocks hosts, cookies, pop-ups pointing to malware sites. For IE, FF and globally.

It is not possible to make a hosts file that includes all the malicious sites, or all the adservers, or all of any kind of site someone might want to block. Malicious sites and servers change by the minute. Trying to keep tabs on all of them is an impossible task. It's far better to secure a PC by reducing the attack surface and closing the holes that serve as entry points. That way if a user encounters a malicious site, there's a good chance it won't be able to do any damage.
