I had been trying to make a patcher myself and I kept failing and failing.. so after a while I googled and found yours!
Different source... but I tracked it here and you have my sincerest thanks.
(It works 100% with the Swedish XP Sp3 x86)

Hi, Are you using XP\SP3??? It is only for SP3. What is the error you get when you boot-up?

exactly what i want to know, to solve it, rename the backup file to uxtheme.dll
and its all solved, but yeah, like to know what wend wrong...
