I have an outdated, very slow burner, 4x. For years I've been be using Memorex CD-Rs...probably because I grew up with Memorex advertising and I felt comfortable with a name brand I was familiar with.
My burning time for a 700MB CD has always been about forty-five minutes...I told you it was out-dated.
Anyway, my wife goes out and buys me a 50-pack of Maxell CD-Rs. My burning time gets cut in half. 700MB comes in at around twenty-two minutes.
How is this possible? Can a different brand of CD-R's make such a difference? I know it's not my imagination after years of burning at forty-five minutes. Is it the new CD-Rs, or could I have done something else accidentally right? ...even though I couldn't tell you what that could be. I swear, I didn't do anything else.

CDs are rated by the highest speed they support. If you were using a 2x CDR and she bought ones that supported 24-48X then your CD burner would burn at 4x. The CDR drive will recognize a CDRs highest burn speed.

Thanks, un4given1, but I think I've entered the Twilight Zone here. I've been using the same speed CD-R's with either brand. Their always 48X...that just makes look at my 4x burner and want to cry. My daughter gets herself a new laptop and cranks them out in five to ten minutes...hard to hate your own daughter.
BTW, I get excited when looking at "Member Name" whereabouts and see you looking at one of my questions, because I know you'll always have an interesting response. (Smile)

Bold Fortune: I appreciate the kind words.
A new CD burner is very cheap. Might think about upgrading.

Also, some CD burners don't take well to some colors of disks. You might look into that.

Yeah, but I'll tell ya. After a forty-five minute wait for years, twenty-two minutes is looking prree..tty good. Whatever is the reason, I'm sticking to these Maxell CD-R's.

also you should put in mind the files integrity that you're burning..
there are files that may slow down (or even ruin) the burning process
