Hell the last version released does not include waik. nLite will prolly never include waik anymore. I think MS pulled an autopatcher on Nuhi!

No they didn't but best is to be careful. Why would we risk if you can backup those files on your own.
Run vLite once with the WAIK installed and then backup the vLite folder, it will have all you need in the future, just install over it.

No issue for me.I have
wimgapi.dll packed into a selfextracting archive that automatically puts it into /Program Files/vLite

.Just funny that ppl think they need a honkin 1GB WAIK to use vLite

.I use WAIK too so double fun 4 me

Yes, please get rid of that utterly useless waik as it is trash software!

It's NOT compatible with Win2K3 Server & Win Vista x64 too.

You don't quite get it.
vLite is based on it. vLite will not work without it. It has been stated to grab the previous version of vLite and install it first as it still has the needed WAIK file. MS is going aroung KILLING apps that redistribute their software so just grab the needed file from the last version and keep it handy.
Somewhere in this really long thread the file is named as wimgapi.dll <-- Thats the only file you need.

Some of you will be annoyed by the new WAIK download but I had to do it, or so they tell me.
You can install this vLite version over the old one and it will work without the fatty download. So backup the v1.1.6 before I remove it from the site.

Actually, you also need the wimfltr folder vLite creates in Program Files\vLite after you install the WAIK. These folders contain the actual filter drivers vLite needs to mount the WIM files.

I don't get it.
What is all this trash talk about "WAIK"? I haven't even heard of WAIK outside of this forum, haven't needed it with vLite, haven't used it, and I certainly haven't downloaded it.
What has people in such an uproar about this WAIK nonsense?

nLite/vLite = used by a lot of people who like to strip everything down to the very strict minimum required for it to even run (the main 2 reasons being: getting that extra 1 fps in games, and lower disk usage even though disk space is like 15 cents a GB nowadays -- or that's what it seems like to me at least). And WAIK is a large download. That pretty much sums it up I guess. (I don't use either personally)

Jun 24 2008, 05:45 PM
Alright, yeah, that totally didn't even scratch my question. If you notice my profile, I use nLite and vLite on every Windows installation ever since I found them.
In all the time I've used nLite and vLite, I've never even heard of WAIK. So therein lies my question. What is all this uproar about WAIK about, when neither nLite nor vLite use it (whatever "it" is)?
anonymous_user
Jun 24 2008, 07:20 PM
vLite does use WAIK.
What happened though is that vLite 1.1.6 and earlier included the necessary files but v1.2 does not. Some people dont know where else to get the files needed other than to download the huge WAIK and thus they complain.
Kelsenellenelvian
Jun 24 2008, 07:22 PM
vLite uses a couple of very specific files from it. It is whats needed to compile the image from what I understand. It is a very key component to vLite.
But ever since the AutoPatcher fiasco MS has been anal about redistrubuting files... Nuhi doesn't want to take the chance of any cease and decist orders or the like.
Think of it as the gas in your car, your car may look pretty and everything but without gas it is just a pile of junk and doesn't go anywhere.

That's really strange. I used vLite to create the version of Vista I'm using right now, done under XP, and never even saw a reference to WAIK. I'm certain I was using the latest version as well.
Confused, as, hell. o_O
Maybe it was because I upgraded from an old version of vLite?
Kelsenellenelvian
Jun 25 2008, 08:05 AM
Yes it was becaues you upgraded. Like Nuhi said in the release post. If the old version is installed first it bypasses the need for WAIK.

I was installing 1.1.6 when I wanted to install the latest version, and I had to install the WAIK .....
thank you

Jun 28 2008, 04:08 AM
You was?? What does that mean? Either:
A = You DID and uninstalled it
or
B = You never fully installed it.
Either way you need to fully install 1.1.6 Before 1.2beta and all will be fine...
bapt
Jul 3 2008, 07:00 PM
so I installed the 1.1.6 completely, I have even used
Then I installed the 1.2 beta but I still had to install the WAIK ...
thanks

Jul 4 2008, 03:13 AM
bapt, make sure it is the exactly the same folder. If it was then install 1.1.6 and then download 1.2 selfextracting archive, run it and choose again the same folder.
bapt
Jul 6 2008, 09:44 AM
it's good I reinstalled the 1.1.6, then the 1.2 beta and it operates without any request to install the WAIK
thanks

like windows deployments services and MSXML, .net framework in x86 and x64 editions, it also includes WinPE (600MB)

install old vlite, then copy the wimgapi and the wimfilters to another location
then just restore these when you need vlite

is there an automated tool that fix this WAIK necessity? an exe to run it and be ok?
it's not me being lazy, it's because there are files needed, folders, etc that I cannot catch up
an autoit/autohotkey script would be marvelous to have and fix at once the WAIK problem

Like has been said OVER AND OVER again just keep a copy of v1.1.6 laying around...
Or just make a winrar sfx file that points to the right folder and extracts those files there.

Any good AV will tell you that.
Plus the fact that the file has been allowed to stay on the forum for so long grab it while its there.
Although I don't support undermining Nuhi by continually hosting the files in posts you might as well take advantage of it.
After you get the files do the following using winrar:
1 = choose "extract here" on the wimfltr.rar you just dl'ed
2 = look in the folder there might be a snake (Inside Joke really) but you can inspect it so you know just what's in there.
3 = right click on the folder wimfltr and select "add to archive"
4 = select these 3 options - "Best compression", "Create a sfx archive" and "Create a solid archive"
5 = click on OK
6 = open the new wimfltr.exe with winrar (right click on it and "open with winrar")
7 = add these comments: (click on the pretty little comments icon in the winrar toolbar)
CODE
;The comment below contains SFX script commands
Path=vLite
SavePath
Silent=1
Overwrite=1
Now all of a sudden you have a silent installer of the wimfltr for vLite with files in it you can trust!!!
MUCH better than an unknown file someone made that installs whatever huh?
Edit----> My keyboard betteries were dying!!! Very crappy looking with missing letters...

How long would it take for these snails to download this WAIK?
