I decided to add another DVD Burner to one of my PCs and looked around the net for a good one that burns + and - DVDs. This review convinced me to buyt this one. The conclusion states:

There is only 1 reason not to buy this drive as we see it, and that is if you insist on using low quality DVD-Media that is unsupported by this drive. Else: go get it!

Conclusion this time will be: ?Excellent CD writing and bundle as well as good DVD-Writing, plus better specifications than most competitors at a lower price ? what more do you want??

We feel that the drive offers so much more at a much lower cost than the competitors that it deserves a ?Best value award?, but the performance, specifications, bundle and definitively also price is so much better when we compare it to most other drives in the same generation that it actually is over qualified for the ?Best value award? and thus we give it the ?Editors choice award? instead.

After a little more research I find that LiteOn has released a different model, Lite-On LDW-811S DVD±RW, and have yet to find a review on it. It is faster but appears to be the same drive. EUR 149.00 www.amazon.de

by the time I bought my dvd-rw lite-on had not yet released a dvd-rw
so I've pioneer a04 2x.
2x - 4x -8x(not yet) media is so expensive though

also mine is only -, its good to have both -/+

XtremeMaC, I would love to buy the 811S, but I still want to read a review first. Amazon has the cheapest price far as I have seen here in Germany and there is a one to two week wait. I hate that "One Click" amazon thing cause I will probally buy it tonight before I find a review, lol.

Which one Drew. The 411 or 811?

I hope I get XPRESS with it. I just paid $150.00 for the Platinum which includes XPRESS. Go figure.

I just bought the 811S thanks to you two yahoos, lol.

The amazon.de page did not say anything about software or additional hardware, so I am probally getting OEM. Then again since it is new to them it just may not be a complete description. Hope it gets here before Christmas.

That's the same dvd burner i bought for $79 last week. It's a good burner, although it's picky on media.

gosh, I thought it would be picky on media after reading the review of the 411. Which media are you having success with? That will be my next purchase. Today, I bought a 25 stack of Sky for my TEAC DVD-R Burner. The stack runs EUR 17.00 here in Germany. You stole it for $79.00

Aprently from what my customers have been saying, the LITEONs really like the Reiteck media. You can find them from about 20 bucks for a pack of 25 4x.

The dvdr that came with the dvd burner burned great and i was able to play it on my dvd player (i believe it was ritek). I bought a pack of memorex dvdr's and so far so good. I used vcdhelp.com as a list of known good dvd's for the burner.

amazon.de is also pushing Memorex 25 Pack 4X DVD+R Media (Plus) with the 811S and the price is EUR 34.00 (US $42.00) here in Europe.

I cannot find Reitek media here in Europe. It is highly prefered by a large majority of LiteOn DVD Writer owners at cdfreaks.com. Good deal and in limited quantities at PCClub.com as Drew suggested. Seems the special called Generic is actually orange label Reitek media for a 25 Pack 4X DVD-R Media (Minus) and only one per customer. Maybe I stumbled on something, Reitek may be made by Datawrite? I have to do more research. Datawrite media can be found at Datawrite.co.uk

Just checked amazon.de and the price for the 811S is still EUR 149.00 with a one to two week wait. Other sources at amazon.de with immediate shipping costs EUR 199.00 to EUR 204.00.

Eh limited....i can get pretty mas much as i want.
And something i have noticed...although i website says one per customer, if you order it online you can get as many as you want...
And most sales guys are willing to sell more as long as there are a decent amount on the shelf.
