hi i have vista home premium x64 with sp1 and my pc specs are as follows :-

Amd Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.0ghz 2mb cache
4 GB (4x 1024mb) Corsair XMS 2 PC 6400 DDR2 RAM
Asus M2N E SLI mainboard
XFX Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512MB 450MHZ CORE PCI -E x16 graphics
Hauppauge Wintv HVR 1300 pci tv tuner
500GB SATA2 Western Digital Hard Drive
Soundblaster Xi FI audio extreme PCI -E x1 soundcard
Toshiba 16x DVD/R/RW/RAM Dual layer dvd drive

Explorer becomes unresponsive almost all the time when i try move/copy multiple files
and when it does actually work it takes ages.....its so bad im considering going back to XP cos basically vista x64 sp1 is too slow and quite frankly unusable cos it is so slow.

i really cannot see business's taking up vista if its gonna be as slow as what im experiencing...i'd go ubuntu x64 if i could but i use Autocad for work and unfortuneatly they have not developed a version of autocad for linux yet

If you could, please try another copy while running process monitor (http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessMonitor.zip) please post the log created afterwards and we can see try and see where the the hold up is in the OS

Does it repro immediately after install? If the answer is yes (without installing any additional drivers or software), it would be great to see a procmon of the file copy, and perhaps even hang dumps of explorer at intervals to see what the heck it's (not) doing.
