Having NV cards all my PC life develops Habits :/ and i really really want Digital Vibrance back. i got a Radeon 9600 since it owns even FX5900's and i got it hell cheap at the Computer Markets. this card owns but i dont have Digital Vibrance and the new FX card feature Image Sharpening. Anyone got any ideas on how to get these things on an ATI card ?
XtremeMaC
haha never leave the roots!!
I'm very dissapointed that nvidia is not doing as good. but I'm not going to switch to Ati!.

Since there is no word from Nvidia as much as past I think they're planning on something good. Maybe they found a way to decrease to 1 slot. tongue.gif

doesn't have tools in properties or color thingies on the cd?
Nvidia graphics cards come with a lot of color stuff.
Visentinel
just the standard mate, gamma contrast and brightness smile.gif

and offcourse i left the roots. ATI cards are OWNING NV cards hands down. i needed something better anyways. i had a fx5200 and i was getting very frustrated with it sad.gif

ATI9600 beats FX5900 - Sad aint it ohmy.gif

IF you check most recent benchmarks from toms , anandtech or any other mainstream review site.
I dont think the 9600 beats the higher end cards like the 5900 or even the 5600.
I do agree he ati hardware wise, are giving nvida a **** good run for their money, and in some cases beat them...i still find that Ati has alot to learn in the relm of driver building.

I build many computers aday, and just a matter of legistics, i have much more problems with ati cards...hardware and software.
I have gone both 2 ATI and NV in the past...and IMHO NV is still ahead of the game.

/my 2 cents

XtremeMaC
yes especially when it comes to drivers
omg how many ppl had errors with ati drivers!!

The 1 thing I'm confused at is the 3dmark tests. ati and madonion says that nvidia optimized the code(altered the driver so that it quickly renders the stuff only in 3dmark)
nvidia then replied the game companies are struggling to get that optimizing to work with nvidia cards.

Now is ati - madonion lying? or nvidia has gone bad?

and some ppl say that someone from the nvidia hacked valve software laugh.gif because they teamed up with ati on hl2.

Yeh and the 9600 is extremely powerful for its class and price vs NV's highest end cards.

and the 9600 especially beats the FX5600 !!

The Drivers are pretty darn good, ive had no problems. and NV can take a lesson from the VPU Recover feature, it makes Overclocking amazingly Risk Free.

There we go smile.gif
Same Results appeared with TombRaider - AOD and a few other games.. also my spell checker had a field day with your quote Drew laugh.gif
XtremeMaC
but those are the old drivers
how about 53.03? they don't include that!
actually I won't argue about this
its now obvious that nvidia is not doing as good as it used to
they need a big jump...
Famer
you could allways try the 3dlabs vp990 512mb on board ram don't know how well she works with games as i use it for graphics based and cad work

hit the big resos and big settings and NV cards just fall over smile.gif new drivers or not newwink.gif

I think your overlooking that NV still has far better image quality.
It has been pointed out that with many explosion and smoke effects, ati's drivers are tuned to simplify the textures, to keep higher frame rate!
And if you think NV's tuned drivers for 3dmark is shady....this is SERIOUS!

Not only have a read this on many publications, i have actully seen it in my store, and have had complaints from customers.

OH and BTW...spelling is for chumps!
Xperties knows what im talking about!

sorry I didn't understand, what did they complain about
the good quality of picture in nvidia but poor frame rate or?
the poor quality of picture in ati but good frame rate?

and which side are u on nvidia or ati?

sorry I've to sleep I guess though I'm still curious about the answers tongue.gif
Visentinel
LOL ! i was only messing with your spelling tongue.gif
I knew what you where saying smile.gif

ATI's quality is almost exactly the same, but those explosions and smoke effects is true :| !

still raw frame rate is owned by ATI.
and your customers that come back complaining about ATI. they're just newbies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if i didn't play games ide use an FX5200 coz i like the features for the desktop and the digital vibrance - image sharpening. But i play allot of latest games and i was able to get a R9600PRO for $265AU and get the perf of a FX5900 that costs $800AU avg

biggrin.gif
Drewdatrip
Each person is intitled to his or her on opions...im just trying to point out the fact that im many cases my customers have returned cards becasue explosions and spell casting effects dont look as vibrant..or dont happen much at all.
My point is that i have seen the difference, and i think its a HUGE shame that Ati will simplfy these "hard to render" images to keep their frame rate up....which goes to show you that at root, they are cheating!
Scores are skewed by the simplification...

These cheep tactis are making it very hard for the consumer to make proper decisions when buying a new Vid card.

Well for those of you using Nvidia cards.... have fun when Half-Life 2 comes out.

The Nvidia 5600 and 5200 originally couldn't even run the game. But luckily for you Nvidia people Valve optimized the code to allow it to work.

Valve designed the game to use 24bit floating point, as it is vritually indistinguishable from 32bit. However, Nvidias cards only support 16bit and 32bit floating point. So Valve optimized the code to use 16bit when possible. However you Nvidia people will be seeing the game in DirectX 8.1 mode, not 9.0. Booya!

And I don't know where everyone has been lately, but ATI has some good drivers out now. Who cares if they are cheating in benchmarks. That's all they are is benchmarks. It means jack because everyone is running a different system, with different software and hardware, and it will never compare to a benchmark in a controlled lab.

Heck, I've seen higher 3Dmark scores on machines far less capable than mine. So what does that tell you? Nothing. It means nothing. Not a single game out there at the moment will even utilize cards running 256mb of ram on them.

And look how huge Nvidia's cards were. ATI made a far superior card in a much less noisy and much more efficient package. What's that say when the best card Nvidia can make is twice the size of an ATI card and not even as good.
XtremeMaC
hey everyone agrees that Nvidia sucks right now. Especially with the 2 slot it takes. The first time the card was out and I read the review on tom's hardware, I had downloaded the sound it made.
First impression:BAD. Then I read on and even WORSE. It was using ddr2 if I remembered corretly and the tests were not even close to the ati's dd1 using cards. This was the first time I had doubts about Nvidia.

I had bought the last 3dfx voodoo 5 5500 card. It was a time where it was merely competing with geforce. I was stupid back then didn't go with geforce. A month later 3dfx died and for some stupid reason Nvidia bought them. The voodoo card was huge. I had to take everything out and re-order them to fit in my box. and a need for extra power.
voodoo 5 6000 was going to need an external adapter. I'm just glad it never made it through.
Now many ppl said nvidia is having this flashback of going down just like 3dfx. Cards are huger and annoying tongue.gif

as for the drivers, I was talking about the past. I'm sure they're doing great right now. As far most Nvidia fans I've seen bought Ati Cards.

(I don't really care which one is doing better right now. hehe I've laptop, not very upgradable. I hope they'll find a way to change it on dell. I know alienware has this capability!.) but I still do think they're good at making graphic cards for laptops.

we'll wait and see, not a lot of stuff going on on both sides. They're planning big I hope.

(I didn't know about the Hl2 running @ 24bit that sounds so lame. That's a trick for Nvidia nothing more, nothing less)

I hope Nvidia strikes back. They came up with GPU's!! that fx tag killed them.

I don't wanna be called Nvidia Fan Boy, (that's real stupid, so the others are Ati Fan Boys)tongue.gif
Visentinel
thats rather innovative actually.

a big boost in framerate without a loss in color and texture quality. Thumbs up to Valve for thinking that one up. to bad for NV that they stupidly decided ages ago to not include 24bit support in they're Hardware.
XtremeMaC
you like ati don't u smile.gif
who wouldn't want to keep the same quality and have a better frame rate
is it something valve did or ati's idea?

yes shame on NV but I don't think many ppl could spot the difference in 24~32 bit. It shouldn't take much fps from 24 to 32 I suppose?
Famer
Hey whats you guys take on the 3dlabs vp990 512mb video card i mainly use it for cad and such things

seems very similar tongue.gif
what's on board ram? does it share the systems memory with the graphics card memory?

aa what!? it not on board its an agp card 512mb card, but I see what u mean I guess there is no other way of saying it but I would understand better if u just said 3dlabs vp990 512mb card smile.gif

and I'm guessing u're giving away this card for free tongue.gif
$675 on newegg!! I'd buy a computer tongue.gif
maybe if it was around 200~300 but 600 no way!
waste of money for me
Famer
This is what im using and hell no would i ever give it away

if you play in 16bit you double ( 100% Improvement ) the framerate from 32bit usually.

24bit is middle ground. you should get a 50% avg jump in fps
