This is the second vista machine I've had this happen to. It works great for a few weeks then for seemingly no reason starts requiring a password when coming out of standby. I have it set to not require a password and have tried toggling the setting to see if that would fix it but no luck. Both machines I've done this to have been vlited but I don't think very much was taken out and like I said, both worked fine for weeks. Any ideas? Both are 64 bit business.

Is the screensaver set to require a password on unlock, maybe?
arctirus
Nope, no screen saver is even enabled.

When you are changing the setting, are you making this change in the Group Policy Object Editor? This is where I set this setting for all my Vista builds, and haven't had any problems with it. Alas, the GPOE is only available in Business and Ultimate, so if you have a different distro, then it won't help you.
arctirus
No, I set it from the link in screen saver options. I'll give that shot when I get home.

you can adjust that from advanced power settings and set "required a password on wakeup".

That's my problem, that's checked and it started requiring one anyway.

Tried it and no luck. The password is still required. Any other ideas?

Couldn't find the issue, went back to an earlier ghost.
