As usual, there are English and Multilanguage versions.

Starting with iTunes 8, besides QuickTime Alternative, you need to install the QuickTime Alternative iTunes Add-on. Maybe in future releases, this won't be necessary.

Current version: 8.0.2.20

Modifications: No Bonjour service, no iTunesHelper or iPodService at startup and no MobileMe support. Shortcuts are not advertised.

Note: x64 versions are not tested.

Get the installers here.
Thanks to sp00f and MUIZ for hosting these files.

I'm very thankfull elajua has picked up this project for me.
Good luck with your releases and I hope this project continues for many more releases yet to come. thumbup.gif

I've also link'd to your releases and this thread from my msfn repository.

x64 versions do not seem to work. They don't install at all.

Also, I installed the x86 version on my MSI Wind earlier - which is running Windows XP Home - and some folder called Archivos something was created in the root of the C: drive. Why is that?

Did you get any errors with x64 builds? Did you use the multilanguage installer or the english version?
Try extracting the files to run the MSI file and use switches to create a log file to see what is going on.
I don't have any means to test x64 installers.

That path you saw is created because i inadvertently kept a path information i use by default with WinRAR when creating SFX files. I will do my best to update x86 builds soon. However, it doesn't have anything to do with iTunes installer at all. You can delete those folders safely.
mulrich
Nope, no errors or anything, because it doesn't even start in the first place. I think the problem is that you set it to extract to the system drive, which Vista probably won't allow. I'm no expert on this, so I don't know for sure.

I tried extracting the exe and running the msi, but that merely stopped because of an error.
elajua
The files will extract to user's temp folder, using the standard %TEMP% windows variable.

What error did you get when trying to run the MSI file? Or the error occurred when extracting?

I already updated x86 builds to fix the creation of those empty folders. I'm uploading them right now.
mulrich
I don't get any errors, because it doesn't run in the first place. Whenever I "run" it, I get the busy mouse cursor for a few seconds, but after that, nothing happens.

Regarding the MSI file, it runs the installer, but when it gets to the "Installing" part, it just says an error occured and the setup cannot continue. No errors codes or anything.
elajua
Will try my best to get a Windows x64 machine so i can test it. I can't promise anything though.
Can you try using logging switches to see if you get any indication of what is going on?

The new x86 builds were uploaded minutes ago.
mulrich
I may sound a bit stupid now, but you're speaking in a language I don't understand. XD "Logging switches"? Sorry I can't be of more help.

Don't worry. I thought you saw that in my first reply i highlighted the word switches and make it a link to Microsoft's Windows Installer command-line switches.

Run the MSI like this: itunes.msi /qb /Liwem "C:\Temp\logfile.log"
Just make sure the path exists because it won't be created automatically. You can create a text file and rename its extension to .log

Please attach the log file.

mulrich
Well s***, running it with those commands made it actually work. It even made it switchless. When I ran the .msi without those commands, I'd get the whole iTunes installer.

I dunno how, but it's installed now. I've attached the log file anyway.

Cheers

PS.: I couldn't attach the .log file, so I zipped it up.

Glad you got working now. If you still have problems running the SFX archive, you can always extract the files and run the installer with /qb which is for silent installation (the log switches are not necessary) and only displays status messages.

I just reviewed the log and it seems all is ok with the installation. You were the only person that had problems with the SFX archive.

Test iTunes thoroughly and post if you encounter any errors.

It is Spanish for Program Files.

Can you check the date of the file you installed? I already updated all the builds to remove the creation of that folder.
Go to the download link and look the new file dates to compare.

Hi elajua, thanks for doing this. I will test iTunes. Do you already know that with the 'new' SFX msistub not needed is anymore? Check my post here.

Edit: I have the ipodservice add startup (don't have an Ipod at all), other things works well.
Edit2: ohh no remember I the two standard windows I got when I started iTunes first time. One about the license agreement and one about the stopped bonjour service. Now I've to click on agree and OK manually, maybe you can automate this?

I tested both English (i use this release in my personal copmputer) and Multilanguage x86 builds and the iPod service is not starting up with Windows.
Can you tell me which build did you installed?

The first time run windows you got are defaulted by iTunes. I prefer that they stay that way instead getting rid of them.

Today i built 3 computers with Vista x86 and the iPod service is not starting automatically. Maybe you had iTunes installed before.

Thanks for the msistub information.

OK ... go to my MSFN repository (URL is in my signature).
I have added new LINKS to the iTunes section for the previously released x86 version.
Thank you for your patience.

elajua,

Be sure to get Apple's re-release of iTunes 8 that fixes the buggy driver issue. It was causing BSODs on Vista :\

I already got them, don't worry.

I will test the new builds today to see if the re-released version of iTunes works with the latest QuickTime Alternative.

iTunes 8.0.0.35 is not working with QuickTime Alternative 2.7.0 yet. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.

Quicktime Lite then? In the other way i'm pretty sure the Alternative boys will come with an update.

Some of those properties were set manually in the installer tables but i'm using just the iTunes MSI installers to make modifications, not the main executable.

Has anyone else tried elajua's new installer with Shark's Quicktime Lite for VCP? I downloaded and installed the latest version of QT for VCP from Shark's website, but iTunes 8 is still telling me I need Quicktime installed.

Running the add-on gives me the error "This add-on requires Quicktime Alternative 2.7.0 or Quicktime LT 2.7.0. I've downloaded and installed your quicktime installer, and I've used your installer with an iPod.

OK, thanks for the information. I'll release my own 'iTunes addon'. Its nothing special,
just 2 files that were ommitted from the quicktime installer along with a reg entry as to where iTunes can find them.

I'll get it out a.s.a.p.

The QuickTime Alternative iTunes addon works great. For your Vista Codec Package users will be great if get your own addon for this.

Maybe you can re-release QuickTime for VCP to include those changes. This way, people just install one thing.
RHPT
Until shark releases his addon, is there a way to manually add those files and reg entries? I need to sync my iPod tongue.gif

Elajua,

Everything works great with the your installer and Quicktime for VCP + itunes addon. However, I just want to let you know that when I try to update my iPod firmware in iTunes, it complains that I do not have itunes 8. It's not a big deal, because you can do a manual update but I wanted to make you aware.

You can always install QuickTime Alternative 2.7.0, then install QuickTime Alternative iTunes Add-on 2.7.0 and you're done.
If you prefer Shark's QuickTime for VCP, uninstall the above when Shark release his addon.

They aren't broken. The server where they are hosted is down at the moment.

I have a (newbie) question: if Apple releases updates to iTunes, how do I install them? Would I need the new version of your installer?

Thanks!

You will need a new version of my installers every time Apple releases a new iTunes version. I try to build them as soon as they are available.
