u can shrink it but the space requirement dont be changed. i got the 7,8 gb free space need if the iso is shrinked or not. so not useful for a eee pc installation like vista.
so i will try with the new sp2 for vista another playing

I was trying too, also to shrink it for eee installation. I was able to compile an iso but it wouldn't boot. I guess I could try it again and be a little more conservative with respect to what I take out.

Successfully vlited win7. I need to work on taking a few more things out though to get it to fit comfortably on a 4gb eee drive though. It tough because it's very picky about what can be taken out and still have it install. I'll also do business instead of ultimate this time. I really don't see much of a need for media center on an eee.

Nov 4 2008, 10:15 PM
Yep Vlite works fine, exept for drivers (Never worked for me.) and hotfixes.
Those things you need to do with Dism.exe.
(Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool)
Mount an image from Windows 7 and go to "System32" in the mounted wim.
Copy the directory "DISM" and the file "DISM.exe" to the system32 folder of your computer.
For x64 this is wow64 ( Im not sure cause i dont have the x64 version. )
Open the DISM folder and register the dll's inside (Some cant be registered.)
Then do "DISM.exe /?" without the quotes in a command promt.
Then you will see how it works.
I sucsessfully integrated drivers and the hotfix that is there for Windows7. (Used Vista drivers for that, most work fine.)
So the old ways to do this will not work on Windows7 anymore (pkmgr and peimg.)
And very importand is to not empty the sources folder on the root of your windows7 DVD.
With Vista it was no problem to remove all things in there exept "boot.wim" and "install.wim"

This would not install on the 4gb disk on my eee but I installed it to a vm and ghosted it to my eee without a problem. I did end up quickly going back to xp though because win7 wouldn't allow the power management utility to launch, even in compatibility mode and as admin. Too bad that this utility is a deal breaker for win7, at least for now because all the drivers installed just fine.
Without system restore, hibernation and having my pagefile on another drive this install is 2.75gb

MINWIN is the hostname of Vista setup (no seriously)
you cant connect to the 'net during setup or open sysdm.cpl but if you run any utility that displays the local hostname after choosing Repair after booting from the Vista CD, itll display the hostname as 'MINWIN'

Um MinWin was not scrapped.. its part of windows 7.... MinWin is the Core of the os that they have been working on for about 10 years Since the windows code before hand was kinda crazy and all over the place. MinWin and its advances are going to be what future versions of windows will be built upon.

also... "System Restore" is another component that is required for windows 7 to work:
System Restore
Crash Dump Report
Manual Setup
Don't Customize Owner Info
and I'd Protect the followin files to be able to user Blue Badge and Hibernation:
Windows\System32\wisptis.exe
Windows\System32\ieframe.dll
Windows\System32\shell32.dll
Windows\System32\stobject.dll

Windows\System32\themecpl.dll
Windows\System32\themeui.dll
Windows\System32\powercfg.cpl
Windows\System32\drivers\diskdump.sys
