woot.gif Hey, I recently installed Microsoft Longhorn on my computer (4051) and I have a HUGE error with my NIC, netgear FA311 (I KNOW)

realmad.gif Does anybody know if there are any compatible NIC cards for this really "light" version of windows.

Is anybody using longhorn out there? IF SO, don't even try to get it. I looked for it for about 3 months, and IT IS THE MOST UNSTABLE VERSION OF WINDOWS OUT THERE! (WELL DUH) They wanted to please everybody for Christams, thats all. Well, you can only guess where I got my copy from. NOT PDC!!!!!!! I leave the rest to your speculation!

(I always wanted to know... is C++ hard to learn? AND How are OS's programmed?)

thanx -- S3 whistling.gif

Hm. You sure are in lack of information my friend!

Longhorn is in Alpha stage. Alpha stages HAS to stink. That's a rule. And Alpha comes before Beta.
Anyway, it's not even meant for you to use it, and it has like 2 or 3 years more of development!

And yeah, I'd have to say that c++ is hard to learn. But if you're up to it, and think it's fun to program, you too can learn it.
And Windows is programmed in c++, if that's what you asked!

I haven't found C++ to be too difficult, but I'm taking a class with a professor, I don't know how those "learn C++ in 48 hours" books are. smile.gif

I have been using 4051 on one of my computers since it came out, it's part of a 4 computer network and it runs fine. All drivers installed and working well, including the nic card, which from memory is from realtek. Runs without any real problems on the network, is bridged with another nic and utilizes internet connection sharing through mine without any real headaches.

I also use longhorn, with no network probs, intel adapter.

I have been using Longhorn since the 4008 build and the 4051 build is by far the best, if you follow this guide to Tweeking Longhorn You should not have many problems,

The only thing I have found annoying is the standby does not work and that the windows naming thorugh networking sometimes crashes after running for some time.

We are atleast 1 - 2 years away from a public BETA version and the ALPHA version is only ment for registered testers.
