Syntax - S8601MP - VIA Socket 370 microATX Motherboard with integrated VIA C3 1.2Giga Pro Processor
$10, with 12 bucks shipping- you can't beat that. I purchased one. I don't care how slow it is (it's actually 800 mhz, I do believe), I'm planning on building a machine dedicated to programming. Why, you might ask? Try compiling C++ applications on a school computer with 32 MEGS OF RAM! Holy crap our school has the worst computers to program on. I'm just gonna build my own, and leave it at school to program on.

hey wow
thats actually a very good deal and very good idea..
u can do anything with an extra computer
build a web server, dedicated game server, test machine
(only if I had place to put a desktop in my dorm room)

on the subject matter does anyone have a hardware for amr slot???

do they have cheap deals for better stuff?
Aaron
Err... that's really cheap for a pretty good mobo that has quite a few bits integrated (even the CPU!) ohmy.gif I wouldn't mind having one of those.

*me looks to see if they're being sold in the UK*
techguy21801
um that may be cool for you all but i'd rather not like to have that much stuff integrated no.gif

ugh. and it's from tigerdirect ...they suck
FthrJACK
not for main PC, but to use it for something like a mailserver or file server its more than adequae isnt it techguy?

If you want to build a cheap 2nd pc for things like that its a good cheap solution.
un4given1
techguy: Tiger Direct doesn't make their own stuff, they just sell stuff. Just because something is from there doesn't mean that it sucks. They sell the same brands that everyone else does.
techguy21801
@unforgiven1 i know that..i've bought things from tigerdirect direct and as a company they suck, not necessarly the products. although getting a mobo with everything built in , and that a rebate offer so it's take at least 6 weeks to get your money back. i'd rather spend a little more and get something quality, ...but maybe that's just me... whistling.gif

I don't know about you, but integrated components = less space and less noise. Perfect for the kinds of secondary PC's everybody's been mentioning. Who cares about the rebate, it's still $22.

@XtremeMac Yeah there's some really great deals on MicroATX cases right now- around 25 bucks for a case with a power supply. http://www.pricewatch.com
XtremeMaC
@Datalore Thanks man
but I dunno if i should get that motherboard.
bc when i get that I'll need these as well
i'd need to get a hdd /box /keyboard /mouse /monitor
$22 motherboard
25+ship+tax box
57.75+ship+tax monitor
$10 mouse + keyboard
$26 3.2GB maxtor hdd

thats some where around $150 smile.gif
I live in the dorms no place for a big a** monitor and the box
right now i'll be okay with my laptop biggrin.gif

see that mean I won't buy it extra stock for the ones who want to buy tongue.gif

REALLY, dude you are a scholar, you really love your school life..... huh.gif

@Sunil
Haha, that's funny. Have you ever tried to complile code on a computer? ... WITH 32 MEGS OF RAM??? A "hello world" program takes, hmmmm, 15 seconds to compile. It should take 2. Forget having IE and VC++ open at the same time. The computer downright SUCKS. It drives me crazy. Believe me, $45 is nothing- if it's preventing me from going insane.
@XtremeMac
Believe me, if I didn't get ripped off on 3 different laptops on ebay, I wouldn't be buying a motherboard- I'd love to have a laptop. I wasn't really factoring in the fact that you need a keyboard/mouse/monitor- I was planning on connecting it to the school's sorry setup newwink.gif
@Anybody else
Where can I get handles to glue on to a computer case? (No, don't say Home Depot or something smile.gif )
