I bought a ATI 9600XT a few weeks back and it didn't work. There was a problem with its memory so I sent it back for a replacement. The replacement came this morning, and unusally it was left with my next door nabourgh - usually it is taken back to the depot, re-dispatched the next day and then taken back to the depot when I am not in again and then I have to trek down before I start work after school and pic it up. This was the beginning of my luck!

I installed the card - worked perfectly. Great I thought, and shut down my PC. I had bought a VGA Cooler with my original order and really wanted to try this out. I don't overclock, but I figured that if the card was kept cool it would last for longer.

I followed all of the instructions, to the letter, put the card with the clump of VGA cooler into my motherboard. It was a very tight fit but it seemed to clip in.

Booted up... nothing.

F**k!

This card cost me just over £100 and it was f***ed! I was really p***ed!

I pulled the card out and was going to put in my old Nvidia GF2 back in. But, I decided to remove the VGA cooler and put the old fan back in. (Where comming to the point of "Buy Duck Tape"). I took the VGA cooler off and tried to put my old fan back on. One of the pins was fine. F**k! Why the f**k did I cut the other one?! My fan was just hanging so that when it span it would just spin away from the chip!

That was it I thought! Put in my old card. But... then... I noticed that in the corner of my room was a role of Duck Tape which had been bought for some previous mission, but I forget what. I then looked down at my feet and saw one of the holding screws from the VGA cooler.

Things started to slowly go over in my head... this will void my warrenty... my warrenty is already void... will this work... this is my only option...

I picked up the screw and stuck it through the fan and out the otherside of my card, grabbed the duck tape and tapped up the end of the screw like a nut!

Put it back in...

Worked!

Brilliant! Duck Tape saved me from wasting £100 by stopping me from just sliding my card back into my draw. Sweet! I figure it must of been that the VGA cooler prevented the card from being properly inserted into the slot.

The moral of the story is to buy Duck Tape. It really is handy.

I just needed to get that off my chest because I'm really pleased.

Is Duck Tape classed as Hardware? I guess it must be!

lol thats insane.. but atleast it works i guess.. but is the fan working now? mean u could take the fan off, and install another fan inside the box from more circulation and prevent overheating... duck tape is hardware? hmm its handy-ware
