I've searched far and wide, yet I cannot get Longhorn to install on my SI3112R controller.

Has anyone had any luck? I'll post my finds here as I continue to search.
sniffles
I found a solution, and I will test in within the hour.

It involves what I was thinking of trying... simply installing LH on an ATA drive and then copying the image over to the sata drive.

Visit here!

Well, it didn't work. My system simply reboots before the longhorn boot screen even comes up. I tried booting into safe mode but I can't tell what file is loading when the system reboots. Oh well... back to searching again.

Yep... as far as I can get is the BOSD for Stop 7B...

Hey

I just want to know.... is it possible to install the build 4053 on SATA drive now ?
Datalore
Most likely not. It's only 2 builds higher, and I doubt SATA is high up on the to-do list. The only way to find out is by trying.
raskren
There is a way to get Longhorn on a disk controller without in-the-box drivers.

This was in the release notes:
CODE
1. Create a sysprep.inf file with the following entries (where "path" defines the location of the machine.inf file):

    [SysprepMassStorage] Deviceid=path
    [SysprepMassStorage] pci\ven_1011&dev_0021=c:\windows\inf\machine.inf

2. Copy the Sysprep.inf file onto the floppy disk that your manufacturer supplies with their drivers.

3. Start the computer from your Longhorn installation medium

4. Press F6 when prompted, and then insert the floppy disk containing the Sysprep.inf file that you created in Step 1 into the drive.  This installs the hard disk controller drivers.

5. Immediately press CTRL to display the command prompt.  When the command prompt appears, type:
    Setup.exe /noreboot

6. When Setup is finished the computer does not restart.  Run Msdinst.exe, specifying from the command prompt the path to the Windows directory.  This is illustrated in the following example:

    msdinst A:\ C:\Windows

7. Restart your computer

I haven't used this and I'm not sure which builds it will work with. I can say, however, that I had 4074 installed on a SATA RAID 0 array using the Intel ICH5R controller simply by pressing F6 during text-mode and loading from the same floppy I use with Xp.

Heya smile.gif

Well, i have trying to install the 4074 on SATA HDD with Sil3112® controller by pressing F6 in the text-mode. I use the v1.1.0.52 of the driver.. My computer crash and reboot when I click on the button to choose my partition. wacko.gif

I'm surprised raskren succeed to install Longhorn. Maybe the Sil3112 driver are not very compatible yet, but it's strange ...

But if Datalore says right, the next version of Longhorn will work completly with the SATA. I hope...

You have to click on the button to select a driver for the target HD when it shows drives/partitions. Yes, you do have to do this AGAIN after loading the F6 driver. I went nuts trying to figure this one out..

yes, i can confirm that this is correct. I have been unable to install longhorn on my SATA drive until now when i pressed that button during the choose the partition step. After that, everything worked flawlessly. Must be a new feature of 4074, but its really annoying to have to put the driver in twice...

yes, but when this is the way to get longhorn working on my sata drive then i can live with it ! smile.gif

Yes, it is certainly different from what we're used to, although it is a welcome feature compared to previous Longhorn builds. Build 4074 is the first to use this as far as I know, so don't bother hunting for it if you're using something else.
Bullets
yep, 4074 is the first to have the "Load Driver" button...the previous builds, with the exception of the two builds that have old xp-style setup (3683, 3718), will have to continue to use the sysprep.inf thing...oh well...i agree tribble, yeah its annoying, but as long as it works on my sata, i'm happy too smile.gif

Ok... i have retry it this morming... and i have found my problem : to show the drivers/partitions screen, you must have 1 or more IDE HDD connected. If you have only a SATA HDD connected in your computer, your computer reboot automaticaly when you want to choose the drivers/partitions screen.

But now, i have another problem confused.gif
In the DOS screen, I press F6, and choose my SATA drivers... and when I want to reload my SATA drivers in the drivers/partitions screen, the installation can't find any drivers on my floppy disk sad.gif

Is anyone have idea on this problem ?

Thank for answers !

I'm installing longhorn on a Barthon 2500+ on a asus a7n8x deluxe with sata sil 3112a . hdd = Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB.
I'm starting the installation from win xp with daemon tools (3.46) and i press F6 and select the sata drivers from a: . This is the only hdd on the sistem and i'm installing on the third partition.
After first reboot i select the sata drivers again . It keeps installing , restarts again and finishes the installation normaly..
Now i'm in Windows Longhorn all good ... i select the drivers for the onboard sound card (nvidia nforce) , 3com lan , and NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management --> all these from the nforce drivers that unpacked on C:\nvidia.... from my win xp.
The sata driver version is 11052 . Now it all works just fine . If i reboot (shut down and then power on the system) when loading longhorn i get blue screen.( also in safe mode).
I tried installing the sata drivers in longhorn after installation and it's the same thing.
Can anyone pls help ? unsure.gif

1 You must have an extra ATA/IDE hard drive to install LH there first.

2 Install your SATA controller drivers, but DO NOT REBOOT!!! Now your system must scan and recognize your SATA/RAID controller. Go and check it out at My Computer via right Click Manage, Device Manager, SCSI and RAID controllers. Your new disks must be there.

3 From your controller, right click Properties, select the Driver tab, and hit the Driver Details button. See what drivers are used by your controller and take the appropriate actions. For example, mine are the following:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SI3112.SYS = This is the driver that does all the work. Leave it.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SIWINACC.SYS = This just the accelerator for the controller and also the reason for the problem. DELETE IT!
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SILSUPP.CPL = This just a control panel entry. Leave it.

4. Now restart your computer and if/when you log in again, you still have your SATA or RAID controller on, then everything is okay.

5 Take a backup of your hard drive, extract it to your SATA/RAID hard drive, and you are ready! DONE!!!

The problem I'm getting is that when I try to install Vista Beta 1 on my Sil3512 SATA, I get a BSOD on restart. This happens whether I install it from within XP or through DOS booting from the disk. Will the above solution fix it?

It runs fine on my old 20GB ATA disk, but then when I install the SATA drivers and restart, the loading screen won't pass, it just keeps loading forever, and then I hafta restart and go 'Last known good configuration'.
