a well known fact is that heat travells up, so why does all the graphic cards have fans and heatsinks on the bottom side?
why not put the chipsets and gpu's on the top side for easier thermal dissipation?

im not an EE, but i think it had something to do (originally) with the pci slot design... but if btx does make headway into the market they'll be hot side up.
Alanoll
Originally, comptuers didn't get that hot. lol. So there was no need. And then they had to make then compatible during the change over from ISA to PCI and when boards had BOTH, there would be space issues. PCI had to go on top for the same slot, but if there was an ISA on the next slot up, there wouldn't be space.

I'm surprised they didn't change it when AGP came around and flipped it back. PCI Express i don't think changes the direction either.

Maybe that's coz of the dust. Its far easier for dust to settle down on components if there's upside up. Dust doesn't do anything to electronic parts, but fans are machanicals, right?

:very offtopic:
@rupert86 is that long thing your signature?
if so I think u should get rid of some stuff in there, that big of a sig is not allowed
and allow me to ask, what is the significance of putting all those info?
hardware revision? irq settings. who on the board cares about them? (and other stuff as well).........
rupert86
Hey xtreme, are you the admin??
Anyway, this ain't my sig. It starts where I've put down my name, Ahsan. That's my config, and you may note I post it only once in a thread. The next time I do with only the sig.

That's coz you may see I live in a country w/ low bandwidth, and 2.44 KB/s peak download rate. Its a real pain going all through those pages to post my config again if somebody asks abt it. Each page on MSFN takes me abt 10secs.

I'm sure I've cleared my point/
XtremeMaC
well okay point taken..
I had not realized u do this per 1st post.
I totally agree on ppl wanting your hardware if u have a problem though not really seen someone advicing any problem on most the things u have posted in your config.. anyways, no i'm not the admin, but usually if an admin sees your sig, they'll pm u and if u don't respond to it they'll delete the sig. well since its not your sig no need to worry about it smile.gif

good day.
