I have obtained a copy of PE 1.5/ PE2004 which is suppose to support loading from a ramdisk in order to support additional 3rd party PXE servers(Per the program manager at Tech Ed 2004). Has anyone atempted to do this and come out successful? My guess is I will have to create floppy that will create a 200 meg ramdisk, copy the WinPE source to the ramdisk and then launch.

TIA

Sorry.. you were misinformed.
1.5 (renamed PE 2004) does not support this feature.

The next version which will work with Windows 2003 Server Sp1 will support this.

I've been waiting for this version now for 4 months now! XP Sp2 Was the reason it is so late being delivered.

I see... Thanks for the info.. So if I get my hands on a 2K3 SP1 Beta I could potentially build the WINPE version that supports this ?
ChrisBaksa
Correct...
But that means getting your hands on a Product that does not yet exist.

You will need PE 1.6 (most likely being renamed to PE 2005) and Win2k3 SP1.

So far I have not seen much on PE 1.6 (2005) but i do know that you cannot build a Server 2003 SP1 PE based disk with 2004. As stated in the .chm, fyi it will not pass the media test in the initial build.

I think that you've got the versions confused (or I'm reading this wrong):

-Version 2004 is Windows PE built from XPSP2, and it's also known as 1.5
-Version 2005 is Windows PE built from Server Sp1, AKA 1.6

-Version 2004 will only build against XP SP2 and Server "gold" releases
-Version 2005 will only build against Server sp1 and XP SP2

Yeah a typo. should be 2005. Sorry...

According to the Docs in 2004...

Version 2005 will only build against Server sp1. NOT XP SP2.
But Hey... this is MS we are talking about. Untill it's released.. all bets are off!

1.6 (2005) still has not been posted to the Beta site.
I'm getting aggravated!

Thanks Chris -- you're right, I'm spouting nonsense.

Version 2004 will only build against xpsp2
Version 2005 will build against Server sp1 or Xp sp2.
