Hi,

im looking for a file to change those blue boot screens from the setup.
does anyone knows which file i should edit?

thnQ
rendrag
it's been asked before, and i was under the impression from previous posts that it's not something you can edit
luc4z
hmmm why can't u edit it?
rendrag
to be honest, I do not remember the details... if you do a search for the topic, it should come up

the location to edit is not known. The particular file has yet to be found and the exact HEX location to edit will then need to be found.

To say the least ntoskrnl.exe has the bootsetup and yes you can edit it, but be forewarned if done incorrectly your system will not boot. newwink.gif

please read his question next time, not just the topic title.

He's refering to the screens during the Text mode of Window ssetup, where you select partition and whatnot. Not the bootlogo.

SETUPLDR.BIN i think, or this is what i've read from other members tongue.gif
my thoughts are that is not on the bin file, string is on SETUPLDR.EX_ (.exe), just b/c of the way windows setup works unsure.gif

As far as i can see you need to modify the setupldr.ex_
and also smss.exe in i386\system32 from the install dir.

Expand setupldr.ex_ and use PE Resource Explorer (which can edit exe files) to edit the files.

PE Resource Explorer can be found at http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d6peresourceeditor.htm

(or search for any resource hacker that can edit .exe)

I'm still in the progress of editting this, so i'm not 100% sure how it will behave after it has been editted (or if it's even the right files) smile.gif

So if anyone tries this, feel free to keep me updated smile.gif

Hope this is usefull

Thank u very much for this.. this is just what i need.. dont expand and edit the setupldr.ex instead just edit smss.exe with XN resource editor and it will work.. i change the text "Windows Xp Installation" in smss.exe and created iso and tried in virtual pc 2007 and it was edited biggrin.gif
