Anyone know where I can find an X2 3800+ with the markings ADA3800DAA5CD? This revision is based off of the Toledo core, which is better performing than the Manchester.
ripken204
get a 165 opteron

How much of a performance difference would a 2x512KB L2 cache make compared to 2x1MB?
Thai3g_Eclipse
Not much. There are some benchmarks floating around on the web that shows the 1MB cache only yields a very small performance increase for the dual core Athlons.
ripken204
its does make a difference while encoding or something large like that. the silicon is also of much better quality which means it overclocks better.

Aegis' question was not answered yet.

benchmark u can see it is a little increase by performance...
but when u do go decoding huge movie... the speed will show that more cache perform faster ..... save more time...
ripken204
jeremy-i did say that it makeds a difference for encoding stuff.

Where is the cheapest place I can find the Opteron 165? On AMD's price page, the processor is under $300, but I can't find any that cheap. Also will it boot on a motherboard designed for Athlon 64's?
ripken204
depends on the manufacturer. the top end manufacturers have bios. if u want to find any dual opteron then hurry and get it now, rumor is that they are not going to be available much longer. if u can find one then get one.

I was hoping that I could wait until Christmas so that the prices will go down. How long do you think supplies will last?
