angel.gif If this isn't a qualifier about the system, then nothing is: "I'm really geeked about it"

Heh - been using this thing for almost a month now, and it's a beast smile.gif.
Extravert
Nice topic yes.gif

I can see what systems are over the world and this one is mine.

AMD64 3800+
X1950XT
4096 MB RAM
2 harddisks
Very small monitor confused.gif cool.gif

bonestonne
thats a sweet keyboard and an extremely neat desk...better than what my desk looks like..is the case side a custom job? oh, and don't feel bad about your monitor, i just got a 17" yesterday before that, been using 15" LCD @ 1024x768 for seemingly ever.
Extravert
It was just a joke about the monitor newwink.gif It is an 22 inch model at 1680x1050 and that suits enough for me newwink.gif
Thank you for the compliment. I always turn my systemchase 90 degrees so the longest side is against the cold
wall. Because all is black the desktop looks clear, but not always newwink.gif
If I have a printjob to do, a huge laserprinter fits on the large free room and the office is one out of 1942! You can jump on it without any damage taken.
Pure iron, heavy weight covered with tarpaulin, the same as on my floor.
Very cheap sollution, but it looks nice, more people visiting me says this. It's so easy to realise newwink.gif

If you look good at the left side of the picture, you discover 2 free USB plugs. One is for my
digital camera and the other for the printer.

PS: If you're satisfied about your monitor and you can do what you must do, everything is fine?
I began with a 15 inch CRT monitor and this one already stands on the attic and that very old
thing still works fine and with a very crisp view. A small thing, but always easy to have in stock
in case of .
Zxian
A little update of my desk area. Added the phone, and moved from my Logitech MX3200 to a G15 keyboard and an MX518 mouse. smile.gif

you must have some pretty rough feet, lol
geek
actually the sub is upside down because the connections on the back wont fit under the desk with it right side up and if they dont fit under they are likely to get broken when i put my feet on it smile.gif
Nerwin
@geek, That makes sense smile.gif Man everyone seems to put there feet on the sub, I do! smile.gif are those the 5.1? I have the 2.1 and they sound awesome smile.gif even for games, when i got mine, I was sooo surprised how much power these have, I have crank mine up and the sound still sounds crystal clear.

i got the 2.1 set for a friend, for the price they are well worth it. but even the 5.1 set cant touch my klipsch promedia ultra 5.1

@geek-
One package of high sugar content candy, one partial package of high sugar content candy, one partially hidden container of high sugar content soda, two spare mice, one thumbdrive in it's own protective pouch, one partially hidden game controller, one (possibly two) sticks of memory on the windowsill in packaging, transferring data between computer and cell phone, two towers, one multitool, one remote(?) and one can of bugspray.

I think the shot glass speaks for itself. tongue.gif

DL
geek
i had to actually look at the picture when you said bugspray -thats not bugspray its canned air. only thing that looks like a remote to me is the 4port usb hub in the changejar. the cell phone is just charging (its shows up as mass storage but i rarely use it) i used to have the thing plugged into a real charger but every time i had to leave home for a few days i had to crawl under the desk to unplug the charger so i just left the charger in my backpack and started charging with usb instead (is it a bad thing if i have more USB outlets than AC outlets in my house?)

No, that's perfectly normal.

"looks like a remote to me is the 4port usb hub in the changejar" Yes, that's the 'remote'.
Canned air, now that is more fitting. I had to blow out one of our computers today using our 80 gallon tank of canned air. Next time I do that, I am going to take a picture of the geyser of dust that blooms out of it. I won't take a picture of my workspace though. tongue.gif

Oh, nice desktop by the way.

ok this is off topic but you mentioned an airtank and ive been looking for one i can fill off off a standard air compressor and use on PCs but I know ill need something that removes the moisture and regulates the pressure and such or id prolly do more damage than good. what kind of setup are you using?

Hmm. As some have figured out and some have read with my posts, I'm not a computer geek or anything remotely like one. My 'canned air' is a 7 horsepower, 3 phase, 240 volt, 80 gallon tank pressurizing to 180 to 200 psi and regulated to 110 psi on the outlet. My location is exceptionally dry indoors even though the local humidity is average to high. For whatever reason, I get little to no moisture exiting the tank, ever. When blowing out the inside of a tower I just make sure of two things. 1) I don't blow 'into' a drive, be it HDD or optical. I blow across them, creating a slight vacuum to drag the dust off and avoiding any potential moisture (that never happens). 2) I put my finger on any fan to stop it spinning as I blow it off. It makes a very cool sound as it spins up on the air pressure but I'm sure it exceeds the 36,000 rpm design limit they have on the fans. You can get a small 5 gallon air tank with a pressure gauge for $20-30 that you can fill from another pressure tank (at a gas station for your tires(Pay attention to the design limit of your smaller tank) and run a short air hose off it to blow out your PCs. There are moisture filters that you can buy for $15-20 if you want.

nah its dead ram. it was in a friend of mines pc when it was hit by a pretty good surge that burn almost everything in the system. he wanted me to test it in an old board to see if it was any good. it was not. which means the only thing inside the case that survived was the DVD burner. confused.gif

hey is that the Antec 900 case i see on the buttom left? If so, I was thinking to buy that case for my next system build. what do you think about the case?
Zxian
The Antec 900 is a pretty good case. It gets a little cramped in there if you have a lot of equipment, but has great airflow and is built very solid.

The case is completely screwed together - no locking clips or tabs here. It's a tradeoff between a really solid feel to the case and ease of installation. Since I don't bother with changing the configuration of my system too much, it's been a good setup for me.

I'll try to take some pictures soon... I need to get the Accelero S2 for my 8600GT, which has found it's way into my system again... for that matter, I might as well provide an updated parts list - see the above post. smile.gif

^for now..about a week. next up is when my AC Accelero S1 arrives. yeah, its a 9600GT. i like it, and it beats my FX5200 by leaps and bounds.

there's still work to be done though. as always.

don't you feel a little nervous with your tower on the edge of the desk maleko? my only question is what the cables look like behind it if its pushed that far back to the wall.

Scythe Ninja..those are the standard fan clips.

Do you have the Rev A or the Rev B Ninja? I'm actually quite disappointed with the two Ninja's that I've got here. I've got a 1200RPM Scythe SlipStream fan on this E2160 system, and my load temps still hit 55C (undervolted to 1.22V, overclocked to 2.4GHz). For the most part, my temps aren't much better than what I got with the stock cooler.

Love vesa mounting of flat screens biggrin.gif

going for a 22", the price different here between 22 and 24 is just to big for my pocket!

Looking at either LG or Samsung, might be more likely LG as there not Glossy, not a fan of glossy screens, especially when my back is to my windows...
bonestonne
Rev A Ninja. I wanted the bolt-thru more than anything...no overclocking, no undervolting. funny though, my CPU is doing a lot better with the ninja and we both have CM cases Zxian...but even with a mid/high 30's idle, i'm sure it'll be up there under load.

will test after i get my Accelero S1, i'll do CPU and GPU same day. looking at the pic longer, and my system makes me hate where the ATX connector is, but once i get some wire wraps (the white stuff the coils around it) i'll see if that makes me feel better.

So in addition to what I've already posted:

Now I've got a used 19" LCD attached to my laptop, for a dual display setup. It's incredibly useful, and has improved my productivity a lot. It was cheap, too - only $50 and it works fine, although I wouldn't use it for high-performance uses such as gaming or CAD, and it doesn't have DVI.

Also, there's a shared desktop, which is a dell dimension 4700:
  • Pentium HT @ 3.0 GHz
  • 512 MB DDR2 Memory
  • Intel Integrated Graphics GMA910
  • Some dell motherboard that it came with
  • Integrated audio
  • A dead DVD-ROM drive that I should probably remove
  • A working CD/RW drive
  • An Epson Stylus C86 Printer
  • Some scanner that I got for like $5 somewhere
  • A Western Digital external USB 2.0 HDD, 500 GB, for backups of the...
  • 80 GB SATA HDD
  • Regular boring 'ol PS2 mouse and keyboard, no special features
  • A crappy 17" Dell CRT
  • Windows XP Professional, SP2

Additionally, I've acquired an old Dell OptiPlex GX110, which is sitting in the living room.
  • Pentium III @ i dunno
  • 512 MB PC133 RAM
  • 30 GB IDE HDD
  • A 3Com Sound Card that sometimes works
  • A logitech something or other keyboard, with fancy buttons and a cool shape
  • A standard Microsoft PS/2 laser mouse
  • A CD/RW drive
  • A floppy drive ohmy.gif
  • A 17" IBM CRT
  • Oldddddd Intel Integrated Graphics - 810 or something like that
  • Asus WL-138G Wireless adapter
  • Windows 2000 Professional, SP4

There will be pics at some point.

OH and the might-be server one that I'm about to get rid of. It's ancient (1999, ok, not tooo ancient) and here's the awesome specs:
  • Compaq Presario something
  • 250 MHz Citrix processor (IIRC)
  • 32 MB RAM, some sort of SDRAM, but I'm not quite sure at this moment
  • A 5 GB HDD
  • A network card from an unknown vendor
  • No keyboard or mouse
  • No display
  • Windows 98, maybe linux + samba soon?

I kinda doubt I'll ever actually use it; I'm more likely to just pick up a cheap system somewhere and use that.

EDIT: Added a picture + changed info on the GX110, which now has its power strip and wifi card. biggrin.gif
bonestonne

^new heatsink, for the 9600GT. Accelero S1 Rev 2. plastic junk is removed, that's why you may not recognize it.

burned in the MX-2 last night taxing the 3D accelerators with Alice. might be an old game, but its still designed by the mac-daddy of 3D animation, Randy Pausch.

idles near 40C now, 7C cooler than with stock cooler.

just wish i was able to cool the VRMs with something...maybe i'll see if a RAM heatsink will fit on them sometime. The stock 9600GT cooler makes contact with them, which is why i see it as a problem, but when you look at the Fanless ECS 9600GT, with an Accelero S2, you see that there's no heatsink on the VRMs. mixed feelings about that.
