Is it possible to install Vista Build 5342 on a removable external hard drive?
The Drive is a: Western Digital: WD Passport Portable USB Drive (the 60 GB version) it’s already been completely reformatted to NTFS

It should be possible. There's a thread there for booting OS (nt-2k-xp 2k3) from usb. You might need to tweak some .oem or inf files to make it possible.
